Lithium Race Batteries

Saw these guys at Autosport... www.7tipsracing.com

Seemed like nice fella's.

They were advertising a lithium racing battery weighing less than a kilo, but allegedly offering similar performance to a 'standard' car battery. Not cheap at £300, but when you consider that folk spend £££'s on CF parts to lose a few grams, then it doesn't look too expensive for dropping 7-odd kilo's!

Anyone know much about the technology? Is the claim it's 'comparable' to a standard battery a fair one?

PS - the one for BEC's is half the size / weight!

They might be Li-Fe batteries. They don't puff and they don't burn....

They are; it's the only Lithium battery technology allegedly capable of taking the kind of abuse that automotive applications give. These have been around for race bikes for quite a while, though I am still not convinced they are suitable for long term use on a road car or bike.
