Transporting a unfinished car
MikeFellows - 23/1/11 at 03:56 PM

how do people transport unfinished vehicles around?

I need to get my car to an exhaust manufacturer an hour and a half away.

i dont have access to a flatbed or similar or know anyone with one

what are my options?

Trailer is only option if no Tax/MOT/Insurance.

Pay them to pick it up?

When you add up all the costs and work out all the risks, assuming they can do it, and I can't imagine an exhaust manufacturer not being able, I think it would prob end costing the same, but being a great deal easier!

I had the same dilema so hunted around for cheap options. Found a local guy to move car for £20 each way. Bargain I thought.

In my experience, if you speak to a garage and agree on the work done, and on a price, and then ask them to pick it up for the price, they usually will. Some will charge you a nominal fee (10-20 quid) which is not much compared to the work they'll be doing for you anyway.

If you don't ask, you don't get!

I have paid an exhaust Manufacturer before too pick up and collect the car! But at the weekend I hired a transit transporter to take the Kit to AB performance which was good for £98.00. But its the hidden costs that gets you diesel, and also insuring the kit for the trip which I think Cost me £26 for the day.

My solution was a cheap knacker caravan of eblag and made it into a trailer. Just big enough for the car, I was able to stand it up against the garage wall when not in use.

thanks for the info guys

im going to give them a call and see if they can collect.

Thanks

no possibility of them picking the car up

ive funnily enough just had a text from a friend whos mate has a flat bed so im going to try him first and see what he charges

I dont really want to buy a trailer (or a caravan) just yet as i would also need to get a tow bar for a car im unlikely to have in 3 months.

if the above falls through i guess its a call to the car transport places.

Where are you taking it to?

I've hired a trailer before from Indespension in Shiremoor to take mine to AAS in Newcastle.
