VAG 1.8t sludge

Whats the best way of removing the sludge build up from the breather pipes in my Passat 1,8turbo. The car seems a bit heavy on fuel, so removed the breather pipe from the cam cover to air intake pipe to find that it was sludged up to buggery. I also found that the rubber T piece from the cam cover was shot to hell also, I guess that wouldn't be doing my fuel economy any good.
Brad.

Sorry I can't help it, but I snigger like a schoolboy at a post titled 'VAG sludge'

Blow it through with an air hose? If it is oil, then soak it in an emulsifier? (Fairy Liquid)

I think I would invest in new pipes - the current ones are likely to be in poor condition which could lead to problems like bits falling off inside and collapsing.

I've cleaned out the sump bowl and rocker cover from one of these engines that was mildly sludged. That black stuff is an absolute bu99er to remove and I had to resort to cleaning the sump with a wire brush because nothing seemed to dissolve the crud. I tried meths, white spirit, cellulose thinners, Gunk, even Cillit Bang. I would image that if you find anything powerful enough to dissolve the sludge it will also make short work of the pipes.

Better get some new ones, I'm afraid...

I hear that soaking the offending items in diesel fuel works quite well.
