OT - TinTop Clutch :( [1.8 focus]
mcerd1 - 23/3/11 at 08:09 AM

my tin-top's clutch is one the way out (I can hardly accelerate without it sliping a bit)

so anyone ever done a clutch on a 1.8 petrol mk1 focus ?

how bad a job is it ?
will I need to drop the subframe or pull the driveshafts out ?

cheers
-Robert

Not too bad but I wouldn't want to do one on my back. It's tight getting the 'box past the subframe and it'snot light. Subframe stays in though but you do want the shafts out.

luckly I can get the car on a 4 post ramp - but I'm still not looking forward to it

Wouldn't want to do it on a four poster, there's no access . What you really need is a two poster or scissor lift.

Years ago I did a clutch on a Maestro on a 4 poster by hanging the front end off of the ramp putting a couple of lumps of railway sleeper under each sill and chaining the rear to the ramp. Worked OK but glad the health and safety people didn't see it
