The Cinq stopped working last week, battery not charging, it would appear, particularly wjhen used at night.
Previously had some fan belt like squeeking noise so used the Saab, for the commute.
Spent what seemed like half Saturday, getting to the alternator mount bolts to adjust the tension on the very loose fan belt, having stripped out
front wheel and arch liner etc to get at it
Happy that the belt was so loose and obviously the cause , I thouhgt I'd drop some new front pads in it whilst up on the ramps (stands and
bricks).
And do the plugs.
Given that Ive had a misfire fior a year, I was pretty happy to find one of the plugs with a melted electrode. yee ha gotta be better for that
Charged battery overnight and fitted today, started nice, misfire gone but still not charging. Arse!
Ouit with the meter ( yes I perhaps should have done that sooner) no output from alternator.
Checked wiring wetc , 99.9% sure alt is dead.
Carry on with family/house jobs, tip run etc in the Saab and on the way back the brake pedal feels a bit spongy
No problem, take it to the local Eastern European hand car wash, that'll help.
So nice clean car and pedal gets worse.
Got it home, expected to find brake fluid on a wheel, but all dry and no loss from resovoir, so I can only assume the master cylinder seals have gone,
can hit the floor with pedal at standstill.
So unless you've any suggestions it's into car 3 (daughters Corsa :-) for the commute and try and get an alternator and m/c sorted
At least the MK got to use a gallon of fuel in the sun!
Pah!
