Agreed. The sound of a fart is not actually the fart, but the fart ripping through the sound barrier. Therefore the fart sound is actually going faster than the traditional "speed of sound", and would catch you up.

On another note, if you were to fart in a forest and there was no-one else around, would it still stink?

You might get off by going to court, on the grounds that you didn't at the time, have a calibrated speedo. You'd probably have to fail the IVA and have the print out to say it was under-reading by enough to show you beleived you were within the limit.
Fixed camera and you'd probably hear no more about it.
