Just picked up a 2004 plate Mazda 6, with 60K on it. Very clean car but after a few day driving I'm noticing a loud clunk when I either brake
heavily or accelerate hard. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?
Personally I suspect antiroll bar mounts, or similar....
Cheers
Chris
I have a Mazda 6 and it is plagued by this problem. My issue is on the rear - its had new shocks, drop links and nuts/bolts all-round and it still rattles/clunks. I believe it is a poor design in that the shock mounts have no bushes and loosen over time and clunk away
On most fwd cars this would most likely be the lower engine/gearbox torque reaction tie bar bushes -- usually called the "dogbone"
mount"

On our July 2003 Mazda 6 Hatch (2.3 manual) , an engine mount was replaced at about 5 years for exactly that symptom.
It'd be the first thing I would check.

Cheers for the advice, looks like I'll have to put it some stands and have a good play
Turns out that the bolts that hold the plate that kinda makes up the McPherson strut weren't quite FT enough!
Oh well at least it was cheap!
Bonus!
