Might be worth getting something brief from the farmer to say he authorised disposal to you. Doesn't hold much but might help if he ever got a very pissed off previous imp owner at his door!

Ok, a friend of mine owns a farm & a car has been left there for just over 11 years.
The owner of the car worked on the farm up until about 7 years ago, since then he has not been seen. Someone knew where he used to live so put a note
through the door asking if he still wanted the car, that was about 8 months ago & still no joy.
The car is a complete hillman super imp, its in surprisingly good condition for a 40 year old car as its been pretty much barn stored for so long, i
would love it but with kitcar, classic mini, daily driver, house & 2 kids, its not a viable option but a friend of mine is very interested.
Question is, can he apply for the V5 ?? Mr Farmer doesnt want it there anymore & just wants it moved or he will call in the scrap man, we have a
home it can go to, got it rolling on its wheels tonight so can trailer it away but how does my mate stand on getting hold of the V5 ??
Any ideas guys & gals ??

Have you checked reg through the dvla web to see if it appears sorn etc.? Your mate can apply for reg doc to DVLA as new owner with fee and they will normally check with reg owner before issueing doc.
Yep. Fill in a form from the dvla and send them 25 quid with chassis number and reg.
Just checked - date of liability on DVLA site was June 2000 so looks like it hasnt been taxed for 11 years, this would make it pre SORN as far as i
remember.
Presumably if he applies for V5 he can then start SORN in his name.
If he applies for reg doc submit sorn at same time.

Good point, i will get Mr Farmer chum to write a small letter explaining situation just incase 
yeah but don't pass it to dvla. it'l just cause them a brain ache

by applying for the v5. Hate to think what happened when the local drug barron who owned it was released from jail 
The new style v5 specifically states that it us a document to show who is the registered keeper, not the owner. The guy would be entitled to the car back at any time.

The farmer should send the owner a letter stating that he wants the car removed from his property within 7 days, or the car will be disposed of to pay storage costs.
