Why no rear engined section
zilspeed - 13/5/11 at 11:36 AM

Where do these two little babies fit in then ?
They're neither front or mid engined.

I did a little of the restoration to the monocoques, but our man Graham did the lion's share of the work himself
Let's just say that they looked vastly different when they came into the workshop and have now moved on huge amounts.

For those occasions when one restoration isn't enough, just do two side by side.

You all know what they are I presume ?

As they should be. Many many many hours spent on the shells to get to this stage.
A GRP monocoque doesn't rust, but they have issues all of their own.

Why no rear engined section

Maybe because there are hardly any builders of rear-engined cars on here?

How many rear-engined kits are/were there anyway... a few beach buggies and other Beetle-based ones, Clan... ?

SeaBass - 13/5/11 at 12:57 PM

Ooh - I remember being present when one of them was being dismantled at the beginning of this project. They look like they are coming on well.

Zil is there still a mid week "drop in" going on at that workshop? U2U me.

I've been searching online for a tongue in cheeck smilet, but can't seem to find one.

Had there been one, I would have used it.

Humbug, I don't really do serious.
Think of me as a poor man's Owelly with a Scottish accent.

There is a mid engine section, to all intent and purpose a mid engine car has the engine at the rear

And

Ginetta G15
Renault 8
Renault A310
And many of the class 10 autograssers which are firmly rear engined.

Err, I'm clutching at straws now.

Anyway, Blake you don't have a section cause you're special.

Guinness - 13/5/11 at 03:44 PM

Fiat 126
Skoda 130.

Pretty much any Tatra

What's the actual difference between mid engined and rear engined? They're both bretty much in the same place to me

Mid engine has the axle behind the engine (GT40 or MR2 style), Rear engine has the axle in front of the engine (VW Beetle, Imp style)

edit: Why no FWD section?

Problem is that's what I was thinking, or the difference being a rear engine directly drives the wheels (like fwd) whereas a mid engine has a short driveshaft
