Me and Steve (amalyos) have bought a small coach to convert to a race bus
the aim for this season is to convert it too a motorhome and tow the racecar behind
and then in the closed season to open the back up so we can put the car inside.
Anyone got any tips on the easiest way dealing with vosa to change usage from psv to motorhome
thanks Gavin
Very Itallion job!
but without the gold!!!
very nice gav, sorry can not be much more of a help with vosa through.
i guess you will be on Steve team then?lol
stu
the plan is by the time my new car is finished, one will go inside and we can tow the other one behind..

i read up about it all a while ago and i forgot most if the detail.
thats a beast!
one of the main points is whether its for commercial use or not.
you change the status to motorhome i think, but you cant just take the seats out and chuck a matteress in the back.
if you search on the internet enough, there is a VOSA/Dft letter response specifically to guide you as to what they expect.(ie, its not obviously
being used to deliver carpets daily etc..)
i have just helped on a 7.5t iveco lorry conversion to a race truck, it looks pretty good actually!
problems we had:
24v or 12v internal stuff.? (we went for 24v)
side door--how do you get to it (its 4ft up) - used a set of ladders cut in half.
break thro to cab or not ?----not as of yet. (risk of cock up is high)
tyres---ones for the front are different to back and are "steering tyres" wtf!
hope this helps

found this site..
http://www.campervanlife.com/building/legal
seems like some good info
I'd gut an old caravan for the parts.
Interesting project, will you be doing a build diary?
shame you so far away dangle....
been on ebay looking at caravans tonight!!
a build diary is a possibility
I've converted a truck into a motorhome and it's pretty straight forward, but when I got it MOT'd they insisted on looking inside the
back to make sure it was a motorhome and to check that it wasn't being used to transport motorbikes. Could be a grey area.
Tips on getting V5 changed: do the conversion and take a load of photos. Get them printed out (bonusprint, boots etc) and enclose them with a letter
stating what you've done. I wrote about 2 pages of A4 and went as detailed as I could. Basically just state what the photos are ( I numbered each
one on the back), be details and concise and state how the work has been done to a high standard. I didn't need an inspection, the V5 was
returned updated as 'motor caravan'
thanks for that Benzine
the plan is to convert to a motorhome this year
and then alter later
Dave at Powerspeed in Ashford is doing the exact same thing for his race car. He may have some info?
Looks cool though.

Always wanted to do this, will watch the progress!
Reminds me of the legendary Xero Blood Bus....
I have done (well using it part finished - see here http://www.austengreenway.co.uk/search/label/Disco%20Bus ) something similar, its a great way of
transporting the cars.
Insurance wise i have insured it as a self build motorhome, the only thing i had to do to the V5 for this was get it changed from a minibus to a Van,
this what the insurance company told me to do.
thats exactly what i was looking for...
cheers Austen.
I believe Steve is going to pick your brains over it, if he hasnt already.
I will have a look at your bus at donny if that ok
