Really like that. It looks like a genuine proper hot rod/beater and not the sort of tacky trying-too-hard self-parody that a lot of these 'rat rods' tend to look like.

It's an aesthetic style really - you'll most likely find the mechanical engineering underneath is spot on. Rat rods started almost as a protest against expensive, shiny never driven show hot-rods and was a throwback to the roots of hot-rodding, but the term rat-rod is to me more recently associated with cars that have massively exaggerated, tacky, blatantly fake patina, and stupid stick on tat like fake luggage etc etc. I think they look crap - like I said above sort of a self-parody. This on the other hand is really tastefully done and looks genuine - so perhaps it really should be called a 'beater' which is a traditional term for a 'locost' budget hot rod, or even just a traditional hot-rod, though the non-period engine probably rules that out technically. Having said that the style of this is certainly a deliberate aesthetic decision and nowt to do with lack of funding or desire to make it all shiny, so maybe rat-rod is right. Ah heck who cares - I like it

Well what do they say about great minds? . I must say I'm glad a near-american could understand my hot-rodese. I learnt it (and dragsterese) from an ex colleague who's obsessed with rods and dragsters (and has both), but I wouldn't consider myself fluent .

I especially picked up on "shiny, never driven". There are vast numbers of enthusiasts over here (and maybe in the UK) where all that seems to matter is paint and external finish..........on the speed channel (fairly decent, 75% car oriented TV channel) I'd say that 1/2 the ads are for wax, polish car shampoo etc.

I like a nicely painted car as much as anyone, but to me it's very superficial (duh)...I like the engineering, styling, construction, novel ideas etc. and find that the shiny paint is just a distraction.

Just my two penny worth..

I saw this one at a show in RAF Lakenheath in 2009.



It was an impressive piece of work, nicely put together under the grotty panels, but what really caught my attention were the scorch marks up each door from the open exhausts!
