need a cheap car...
blakep82 - 6/8/11 at 04:58 PM

thinking of a corsa b, they always seem to look fun when they're lowered etc.

however, seems to be the 2 litre red top ones are going to be fun. seeing as they are all conversions, how much extra am i likely to be paying on the insurance? and whats the chances of finding one thats registered properly? my mates got one, says its great, cheap insurance and tax, yeah, but his is still down as a 1.2... lol

would happily got a 1.6 though. anyone know of any near me going cheap?

Sorry don't know the answer but...

"...says its great, cheap insurance and tax, yeah, but his is still down as a 1.2..."

...probably means his insurance is void so not so "LOL" if he has a prang.

My mate has a 1.4 16v 97 corsa 5 door with 35 k on the clock, it was his Gran's but stored it away.He need's to get it shifted because he is away to move house with not much space. The only down side is it has no MOT or tax but only want's 550 for it but quite possibly you might get him down.

The car is located just outside Insch 20 mile's north of Aberdeen.

cheers everyone! not interested in Pugs, mums got one, no end of trouble, wouldn't have one myself lol cheers anyway
97 corsa might be interesting. would prefer 3 door, but the price is right. might be heading up to elgin at the end of the month if its still there, and i don't find the one i'm after before then, so i'll bear in mind.
corsa c, i'll have a look ray. with the b, its the resale potential i'm thinking of. not sure the c has the same sort of interest, but i'll let you know

if i was being really fussy, it would be this i was after

was never into the whole lowered hot hatch business, but after all my cars being big cars, i fancy one for a bit...

on the corsa B, check round the engine bay seams, but most importantly of all, check the B pillars, all mine have cracked, simple fix, removing trim, drilling each end and welding then dressing back and spraying etc, but something to look for and a bargaining tool if its cracked

personally I would find a decent GSI model, then add the tuning inlet manifold and plenum, was near as dammit as quick as my C20XE, till I fitted TB's LOL

I went with lowered on AVO coilovers all 4 corners, 15" team dynamic whels in the correct offset.

started with 1.4 SPI engine, load of cack, ended up with C20XE on TB's with F28 6 speed box

this was an early stage with 17's

dash, all my work

check out corsasport.co.uk bit of a boyracer site, but theres some serious clever guys on there, and some big tuned cars

the 2l range will go in no probs with different mountings and sorting the shafts

the V6 will go in, but the steering rack is a bit of a pain, I did one and drove it, only the once, way too front heavy

You can get the V6 out of a vectra in a Corsa B, I know a guy whose done it.

I wouldn't recomend a Corsa B though, my Mum had 2 new ones in the 90's and alot of my mates had them and they're aweful cars. You'd be much better off with a fiesta or something french.

They must be absolute bobbins if you're recommending something french!

Come round here, being Vauxhall city there's loads of them for sale and dirt cheap because everyone's got one

dlatch - 6/8/11 at 07:55 PM

ok a corsa once it has a XE lump and money spent on suspension and brakes ect is a decent car
but the reality as standard they are bloody shite, and look like crap.

blake how much you spending?

clio knocks socks of pretty much every hot hatch out there imo the 2.0 sport ones are fantastic

blakep82 - 6/8/11 at 08:28 PM

really want to avoid the french lol
if i can get something reasonable for £700 (1.6 would do me, and no V6 conversions lol wtf?)

in fact, the more ii think about it, i really do want a corsa b.... never thought i'd say it, but i think i do

True I would like one myself

tony-devon - 6/8/11 at 09:49 PM

its an astra GTE digi dash, that I pulled apart, remade the facia and fitted into the corsa housing

blakep82 - 6/8/11 at 10:12 PM

ah cool, never knew what the GTE dash looked like lol.
and thanks for the advice on what to look for. there's a 2.0 corsa advertised fairly local to me (its on one of the islands though...) a bit expensive at £1200 with no tax, but it has been on pistonheads over a month, could maybe get him down a bit, but again, depends on what engine its registered as, and what the insurance would be on a modded car...
saw the ad last nite, but as its now over a month its gone. will see if it comes back up. might call the guy tomorrow (wrote the number down) and see what he's saying
