There are retired guys in the east midlands with equal skills, but due to successive government stupidity, were forced to live there later years on the dole.

Coopz - 20/8/11 at 08:57 PM

Truly talented, what a skill!

zilspeed - 20/8/11 at 09:05 PM

The world over, such skills are not appreciated as they should be.

Especially here in the UK where we've ended up as not much more than a service industry nation.

I'm reminded of the Hitch hiker trilogy (in four parts) where it was sort of predicted years before it actually happened.

Try doing that after a night on the Stella

ReMan - 20/8/11 at 09:58 PM

But this is why they make the RE(man) in India still low technology, low wages
The UK bike industry was failing in chasing the japanese for high tech , low wages at the time.
We have/had the skills but........?

Theres magic in the brush and gold paint can only be magic paint.

When the early British bikes were made, all the tanks were done in the same fashion, by equally skilled people. Ray

He should definately get a payrise - I struggle with a roller on a wall!

yes there was, but i thought it was the first side he painted, towards the front of the tank.

bonzoronnie - 21/8/11 at 08:01 AM

I thought the same then remembering my next door neighbour had a RE when I was a lad, I realised that it had this bad boy fixed to each side of the tank

So badge fixing point methinks

rusty nuts - 21/8/11 at 08:33 AM

The tank had a ding on both sides! I knew a signwriter that was every bit as good as him but like everything else the skills are gradually dying

big_wasa - 21/8/11 at 08:41 AM

All skills are dying, how many younger people sew and knit and how many of you lot fix your own tintop.

I do occassionally, but generally I pay a local garage to do all the work needed on my tin top as it saves me time (and lets face it, working on tin tops is horrible compared to tinkering with a kit car or motorbike) and contributes to keeping a small, local business going.

I can "stitch" weld, and "lace" a vertical up root run if that's any help.

Cheers,

I would guess that it's a teaching session, dinged tank to practice on and tutor etc
observing.

My wife knits and I still fix all our tintops
