TINTOP window woes - SWMBO is cross...

we have had a right week of it, first our windows are put through at our other house (empty becuase we needed to move to get son in a school that isnt in the middle of a rough part of liverpool)

Next an old lady who bumoed my wifes car is quibbling liability

and now I get in to a wife shouting that the rear window on our grand scenic wont go up

I have tried a fuse removal trick I found online..didnt work

I have the rear door card off, and unplugged the motor...does anyone know how I can get the damm thing up for the night?

Can you get to the wires for the motor ? If so try connecting a live feed to one wire and an earth to the other , if the window goes down reverse the feed and earth . If the window doesn't move then the motor or linkage is U.S.. You may be able to release the window from the regulator assembly and lift it up , them block it up with a piece of wood?

Don't know, but when you find out let me know. Had a few customers with Renault that wind there own windows down and won't go back up (2 while stood locked all day in the rain at the train station!). Unfortunatly they've all turned up when I've not been able to look at them for long and have gone back to the dealers. All have been fixed at reduced cost so I suspect there's a known fault.

The ones I've seen I haven't been able to back feed the motor to wind it up (can bus contro;er built into the motor) and there's been no easy way to disconect the regulator and wedge the window up. Only had limited time though so far and not figured them out.

If I remember rightly its the plastic holder for the cable that fails. Happened to my Dad twice and my neighbour twice. It should lift manually then wedge it with a piece of wood. Was there not a recall over this as it happened to pretty much every scenic in the land.

great ideas rusty nuts but as adithorp has explained the glass seems some how boned to the carrier, so undoing the bolt didnt release it.

Cant drive the motor as the controller seems to be built in to it (one unit).... and from my reading it seems the controller is where the fault lies.

Looks like its going to the main dealers on her day off (thursday).

Time to get a bin bag and sticky tape out as it looks like rain tonight.

Thanks again folks - looks like I'll have to just take the disappointed glances for the rest of the night.

hmmm... well motor sits there dead when any of the stwitches (front or rear) are used. So dountful its the carrier as the motor should engage, or at least attempt to shouldnt it?

My bad! They had wind up windows! According to the renault forums, WD40 is your friend. Water in the control causes it to go on the blink.

There is 1 screw holding the motor controller on the motor when you remove it you have 2 pins power and earth
All you do is power it up on 1 pin and earth the other for up or down just swap pins

Not that I know this from personal experience but I can confirm that the scenic and such cars have nutsack electric windows and they regularly like to go arse over tit. Okay, fair cop, it's personal experience
When I bought my latest tintop it had the obligatory knackered electric window (it's a Megane). I thought it was just a loose connection but the first time went over a speed bump the piece of wood holding the window up got dislodged and the window fell down. How I laughed..... Actually I did. The piece of wood was so carefully cut to length and notched I wondered why they just hadn't replaced the poxy regulator.
Investigation showed that the mechanism failing had somehow unclipped the window glass from the carrier.
A dead regulator and an unclipped pane of the glass are therefore somehow connected....

Thanks for this - only problem is its a TINY torx head, and mine dont go small enough. any idea of what sort of size we might be talking?

After the £360 smashed house window I cant afford to splash £100 on a new controller really!

Thats the info I've been wanting. Either that or a customer who'd leave thier car for more than 5 mins... "I've got to pick up the kids/husband/wife/mother-in-law/dog/booze..." even with the window stuck open in a monsoon!

My Renault windows were all controlled by the ECU, its a common issue the way to solve it is reset the ECU.

There's a procedure for doing this which I cant remember but I found it on line.

There is also a very common problem in the winter where the back screen is frozen up and the rear wiper doesn't move and blows the fuse, which upsets the ECU and the car doesn't start and the system needs resetting!
