I have generally borrowed a mates air fed mask when spaying 2k at home, however I would like my own.
Now, I was thinking that rather than use my main compressor with its nasty air which needs a coalescing filter, could I not use a separate air pump.
It doesn't need much pressure, just a few psi, but fair volume, probably 50Litres/min??
Thought about either a little diaphragm compressor or possibly something along the lines of a larger pond air pump(I do realise the £10 ones
won't work, but some seem to have a large output and suitable for 2m depths of pond, ie produce a bit of pressure)
this is all just an idea ATM, but it will need to be cheap
Any pointers/ideas??
(and yes, I fully understand all the dangers of 2k, and yes, I want to be safe, but I suspect this can be done cheaply!)
You can buy them with little electric pumps and filters. We used to use them at DuPont, but they can be mega £££ and high maintenance. We used to
have them calibrated as well.
Like SPERIAN AIR FED MASK. AIRVISIOR 2 | eBay as a DIY option.
The small turbine air compressors used for DIY HVLP spray guns would be more than man enough for the job.
Why not one of those 12v airbed pumps.
less than £10
Yep, had thoght of those HVLP jobbies, in fact they are VERY similar to a hoover, so another option I guess, and could be very locost
Sadly I expect the duty cycle on an airbed pump would be rather too short, one thing it will need is to be reliable
Good idea though, maybe use the pump on a better motor......
Any other ideas?
No idea if this will work, how about a car heater blower?? Build a plywood box with a hose outlet... Will draw a bit of current but a good 12Volt battery should run it for a few hours I would think.

Hi,
How did you solved your air fed mask?
We bought 3m mask for work with some chemicals in joinery and faced the same problem that our compressor is producing a lot of oil mist and with
lowcost oil less compressors you can't be so sure there is no teflon particles in the air so diafragm compressor seems to be ideal solution to
produce breathable quality air for air mask.
If 2 are needed to coupe with 200m3/min thats not a problem as it seems to be one of the cleanest options anyway, but can they achieve required flow
at pressure to pass belt filter?
I bought a cheap devilbliss diaphragm pump at an autojumble. Old, very heavy, but supplies an air fed mask beautifully. In fact the mask is an ex-military gas mask, bought from another jumble. Total cost was £30 for the 2, and I am using a slightly cracked airline that is looking a bit iffy for HP use now.
Dont forget, that if the cheap skate bodge job of trying to cheat the system, you will not lose some money,
IT WILL BE YOUR LIFE
My m8's brother did exactley the same thing, spraying 2k with a wet towel over his nose and mouth
he died some 10 years ago, and was in a real mess for about 5 years, as no one new what disease he had,
only making an observation

Nice to hear you are using diaphragm pump! Your case military mask sounds to be a bit less resistance setup but hope a lot we'll be ok with diaphragm as well. Air fed masks is a beautiful idea just everybody needs to be aware of oil, moist and possible bacterial contamination of supply air. I think there are too many people relying on a small coalescer belt filter. Thank you!
