
Has a sloppy sloppy feel to it, before I get busy and dig in to see what the issue is, anyone have any pearls of wisdom?
i had 1 years a go same problem i got a full rally linkage it was rose jointed and it was spot on gets rid of all that plastic ball and cup crap lol

The standard linkages are made of small Ø (read bendy) rod with cheap and cheerful (read sloppy) ball joints. There certainly used to be kits available with better rods and ball joints, some including quick shift adapters. It's also worth checking and replacing if necessary the actual pivot on the gear lever which can wear and hamper clean shifting. The BE1 (and variants) g/box actually shifts pretty well when the linkages are all working well.

One other thing to check Liam is the rear engine mount. The standard one is relatively soft anyway, and gets worse with age/mileage. The standard
one looks like this...
...and can often break allowing the engine and g/box free to rock back adding to strain on the linkages.
It's best replaced with a solid type like this (Grp A IIRC)....
