Not going France in your classic car are you?
Westy1994 - 13/11/12 at 09:26 PM

You better read this first.... we have LEZ zones in the UK, but this takes it far further.

Paris to ban old cars.

Simple, just stick modern clean (emms) running gear in rickerty of motors and let frenchy major shove his ban where the sun don't shine.

Hardly remains a Classic car then does it, so I wonder what engine someone with a 1930's Bentley could fit ?, see what I mean.
It would cease to be the car it was built to be, I wish these climate change folks would give it a break. They ought to watch some science programs and see what the earth does all on its own with no help from us....

Thankfully, I would never go to France anyway so it's no real bother to me.

Just thought perhaps someone maybe planning a tour next summer.

September 2014 given as the date so plenty of time to get in there.. assuming this does indeed get passed.

Absolute nonsense. (P.S. My degree is in this stuff so I know/care about it.. but classic cars have no impact here. 3% of Parisien traffic is older than 17 years old? That's hardly going to put a dent in France's overall pollution.)

Can't complain about getting rid of some of the older mopeds though - I'm pretty sure over 50% of the bikes in Paris are not lung-friendly

Westy1994 - 13/11/12 at 11:08 PM

Does that then say more about their equivalent of our MOT then, perhaps if they tested stuff like we do it would be fine ?
I have never been into Paris so I have no clue what the traffic is like, having watched a few Topgear episodes , I do get the idea....

Traffic is awful in the Peripherique - otherwise not far different from any other major city, but it's the bikes you notice. Yes there are clapped out old cars, but to be honest the ones from the early 2000's smoke as much as anything from the 80's. Bikes and lorries are the real "smoke cloud generators".

Incidentally.. this too:

They're losing the plot clearly (I'm biased as I've got a 1989 Westfield in the garage and a jar of Nutella in front of me )

LOL, not had Nutella for years, but reading that link, yes I think your right about losing the plot. Has our government been giving them lessons in taxation...lol...

Big difference from traffic on the Perifique and the M25 is it moves, usually too fast which is why you see accidents that you think how the heck did that happen.
Rest of its a crock that just wont happen, why should we call the frogs anyroad when we have the most draconian rules (read money making scams) in our own capitol.
Cheers,
Bob

trouble is if this nonsense gets a hold in one euro city the it'll spread, we already have classic diesels outlawed in london and thats rolling out to a few other cities in the uk next year. Not based on sound research but ecomental hystreria
Authorities seem to be in favour of classic vehicles so long as you don't use them. 17years and over means I can't even go there in my daily driver:

Ive just got back from Paris, spent a long weekend there visting family. I have to say, the LAST thing they should be worrying about is traffic in the capital. Yes its bad, (no different from any other capital city) but they should be spending the money regenerating the area that look like the shanty towns of Sau Paulo! Apparantly, they have had an influx of imigrants from Romania who have set up these little fuvelas underneath every motor way intersection and derlict bit of land. Looks unbeleivebly awfull. The busses we used were so packed you litterly couldnt move, it was like that korean/japanese video of the guards squeezing people on to the train. Then theres the parking enforcement (or lack of) people just dump there cars on the pathway, for days! and dont get ticketed or towed.

Even seeing the Eifel tower (Which should impress anyone who hasnt seen it in the flesh) wasnt enough to convince me it was worth ever going there again!

We do, and a) it's still a problem caused by us that we may still be able to affect and b) these rulings are made by halfwits, not scientists. No sensible scientist would put a ban on cars as few and far between as 1970s classics due to the overall volume being tiny, in fact I'd go as far as to say no sensible scientist would do anything but try to improve future cars, because forcing people to bin perfectly functioning older cars means more manufacturing of new ones which causes stacks of pollution anyway. These policies are the broad application of scientific principles to a system that isnt perfect, so it's not going to be perfect.

Ultimately, the number of people taking a classic car to paris is going to be next to sod all, so no-one cares about them.

I love the smell and noise of old two strokes!

I have to admit, despight my phones satnav gave up on us as soon as we came of the main road, as we hit traffic and had some 'window washers' demanding payment and threatening to take our bags, taking out the leading edge of the bellhousing on a carpark ramp, and not having time to actaully climb the tower, just see it while grabbing a pizza and continuing, I loved paris.

Mad, but very french. Very much hoping to do a weekend away there sometime.
