Guys
Help.....my nan in law is about to be robbed! Some garage up her way is saying her car is just worth scrap value only and would be willing to take it
off her hands as she is going to give up driving, as she is nearly 90. Seriously this car is MINT for its age, 70k on clock all original. I saw it
just a few months ago and it's a prime excellent example of history preserved.
This garage I'd bet will flog it on scamming her out of it true value. How much is something like this is worth? I'm tempted to go pick it
up tomorrow to just stop this garage getting their hands on it.
Would anyone on here be interested in something like this? Serviced every year without fail....it's a bobby dazzler
Help!!!

I bought my first mk2 for 300 but that was a bit of a bargain
Do you have any pics I could be interested
I'm afraid they're right, worth £140 at best. I'll come & take it off your hands for £120 to save you transporting it....
Or if dont let them pull the wool over your eyes it's worth a fair bit more, if it's totally original & mint the VW scene will be keen
on it.
Difficult to value but probably worth more in the spring with the show season coming up if it needs little doing to turn into what they're
looking for. I know there's plenty time wasters etc but a well sorted ebay ad with plenty pictures & all the history you can find for it so
it makes as much as folk will go to?
No I'm afraid I don't have any photos. I wish I did! It is not quite the iconic classic Mk1 coz its a mkII but it is mint. I just can't believe a garage is willing to take it away as a 'favour'. There's a complete pile of nuts and bolts on Autotrader at the moment and that's going for £600........can't help but feel useless as she lives so far away to be able to step in and at least sell for a half decent price
Where is the car then? If it's just along the road from someone it may spark their interest?
must be worth a grand to the right fan. It certainly isnt worth just scrap value.
I might be interested in that - would need more info though - what model is it? which part of the country?
Perhaps a local locoster could go and take a few snaps?
She lives in Alnwick, Northumberland.

Well it's red....! However as for engine size model variant etc I can't remember. My mrs has left a message to ask her to get back to me.
As its nearly 22 :00 I'm guessing the Ovaltine has made an appearance and headed off to bed.
Might get an answer tomorrow.
What has sprung to mind in terms of relavent information. It's a 5 door hatch and from I remember of the sound of the engine when running sounded
like 1.2 maybe 1.3 litre and I'm sure the badge had an 'L' in the model variant. Strange what details ppl remember :-)

Sounds like it's worth £500-1000 to the right people
Yep, young aspiring Vdubers will snap it up
I'd guess not worth loads unless is a gti. I know it's not directly comparable but i bought a c regsierra as a donor a few months ago that had 90k on the clock and it was less than 400 quid. And i can barely find atrace of rust on it... So old cars in good condition aren't necessarily worth much...

Okay
I have some more details but not much.
Its a VW Golf GL 1.8 4+E 5 door. In RED H345CVK
Does that help with any kind of valuation do you think?

Not a lot. At that age it will sell on condition. Get it on fleabay, that way a quick sale or whatever.
The problem is it is away from you, and she has no interest and wants it gone hassle free. Needs local support methinks.

If it was my nan I'd be offering to buy it myself, even if it is only to sell straight on (and it looks like you could easily do that here )
I'm afraid its all a bit too late. The car was taken away yesterday as a 'favour' by a local garage it would seem. Just so happens
the garage specialise in doing up old cars.....so i am informed.
Nevermind :-(
If you think it's truly a rip-off then i'd say it's worth getting onto your local Trading Standards dept and trying to claw it back...
I'd be livid on the phone for taking advantage of an old lady
