Grinding wheels - Check em out!
gttztt - 8/12/12 at 10:04 PM

Evening all.
I've just converted an old grinding wheel to a polishing rig and found something disturbing.
When taking the wheel guards off, I found both grinding wheels were loose on the axle
and one even had a loose retaining nut.
I have been using the grinder (a very cheap one) for a couple of years without thinking about
any preventative maintenance. 5 mins to check out the security of the wheels now seems obvious
and will be something I will be doing from now on.

Are there any other obvious maintenance tasks I may be missing?

Stay safe.

Maintenance are what Friday afternoons are for.
When you are retired of course.

I thought it was POETS day (although I haven't had one since 1989)

loop a bit of string through a wheel and give it a tap with the back of a screwdriver or somate hard plasticky, should have a nice ring to it?
dull thud and its cracked, bin it before it disintegrates
