Watch out for poor renewal quotes
Jasper - 15/2/13 at 12:21 PM

So I got a renewal quote through from by insurance company 'Insure' for my Focus ST - they wanted £474 for another year fully comp.

5 minutes on Money Supermarket and I have a new renewal quote of £230 from More Than.

So I call Insure and ask them why they're 'great deal' is over double what I can get elsewhere. So the guy ask me if he could quote me again, so I asked him why he hadn't done that in the first place when they sent the rip off quote? His answer - insurance companies change they're rates everyday, so maybe today it was less - so i said, what, £240 less?? They're such lying bastards - I would even let him give me another quote, they had their chance.

So make sure you always check your renewal quotes!!

But also watch the comparison site quotes, Insurance companies are stripping cover back to the base bones to get to the top of the comparison charts. i.e. No Legal Cover, No Loan Car, etc. etc. so when you add these back in they are not as competative.

I do agree though, check every renewal.

You get what you pay for with insurance.

LV have always renued quite competativly ( within £20 / 30 of competitors ) until the renual this year and it had gone up £120.

Ended up going with Aviva better cover for less £ When I rang to Cancel the LV I was asked could they re-quote I told them No they should have done the 'Cheepest Quote' in the first place .

You get less than you pay for. But you can choose how much less.

If only that was true,

Quoted well over £600 fully comp, for the mx5 a few years back, from a well known online insurer - got better cover locally for £329. The big companies just try it on especially when you are renewing.

I've paid many thousands of pounds in insurance and have had nothing back from it at all, other than being able to legally drive my car. If I had paid more, I would still have had nothing back from it.

Not really, one insurance company can charge twice as much and offer less of a service. Insurance premiums are dreampt up using risk calculations. Some companies consider individuals less risky than others and some companies dont care and are just trying to rob you.

No quanitive value of relationship towards services or customer focus.

Simples.

If this was true they'd be able to show us how that's worked out. By going to comparison sites it looks more like a random number generator than any logical process

Footman James on my kit car first year was £340, last year was £300, This year £397 which is a canny increase and they had also removed agreed valuation, and increased excess to £300.00

Phoned Frank Pickles who offered me agreed valuation, Matched mileage and legal cover, excess only £100. Total Cost £190.00 Im happy with that.
