Hi there, im doing a jago body to suzuki sj chassis conversion, I have got to the stage of laying the body on the chassis and i need to extend the body by about 3 to 6 inches depending if i decide to cover the steering box as well with the front panel, but as you will clearly see the body will not cover the rad.




I have drawn a red line where i think is the easiest area to cut and extend the body within the door opening (a few people have done this in this area), my question is after ive cut it whats my best way to fibreglass it back together?

I was thinking cut it seprate it the corrct distance clamp a piece of flexible ply to th body in hope the ply will take the curve of the jago body, then apply mould release then fibreglass on to the ply.

should i whilst fibreglassing add some mesh to help strengthen the area? obviously i want to help prevent cracking.

The other problem i have is this area has a lip top and bottom that i would need to replicate any ideas how to makee the mould?

just after some knowldge and suggstions really

Before you make the cut wax the side panel and lay fibreglass ontop of it, this shoud all you to make a mould of the profile required you can then create the exact profile of the side cut your side and lay fiberglass to the rear of the repair. Just my thoughts somebody will no doubt come along with a better method

From what I can see in your picture , the body appears to be sitting too far back - surely if it were in the right place it wouldnt need to be stretched ?

I hadnt thought of making a mould before i cut, hmmm food for thought

+1 for taking a mould off the sides before you make the cut. Once cut and stretched to the correct length you can clamp the sections of mould over the join and glass-up from the inside. You may want to consider making a wavy cut so when you make the infil, there will be a longer joint and no straight line which will promote a crack.

Wouldn't it be easier to cut the extra length out of the chassis and leave the tub alone ? I had a jago and don't remember it being that short ,

I would love to just shorten the chassis, as I have no clue with fibreglass

So all I can do is adapt the body to suit the sj chassis as far as I'm aware

Don't know if this will help you, but I used the same technique in widening a scuttle, to great results, actually.

I'm just extending the wings to meet the front panel and a new bonnet out of steel.

If you chop the body there the doors and roof aint going to fit..
