Should I ask where GTS rates? I know they're no longer going, and customer service issues aside, I think they look quite good!
[Edited on 31/3/13 by Charlie_Zetec]
rating the manufacturer or their product? Are you judging overall package?
I'm sure you will get plenty of reaction from the MK owners shortly
Mac#1?
it made me chuckle
I would say take everything out of tier 1 except Caterham.
Tier 2 is Westfield.
Tier 3 is all the rest.
Stu
I wouldn't have the GKD in the same division as mnr or RRR. I like my car but its overall finish isn't as good as the 2 I mention, They can be made to look as good but it takes a lot more work. Down to the builder I suppose. However aftersale support and customer service is excellent with Pete from GKD even nipping round to builder's houses to lend a hand.

Due consideration given and a new entry in the Third Division.
Stuart Taylor must be second division ...all day long
Westy1994 - 31/3/13 at 03:26 PMYou wont be getting a Christmas card from a Caterham owner, calling his car a replica ( even though it is)

austin man - 31/3/13 at 06:43 PMOppinion is a very funny thing without owning driving etc etc all the products then how can a league be put together you are obviously basing your gradings based upon oppinions that you have either read or heard or you indeed have been very one lucky chap in owning all of the cars in your league. The top 2 in your league in the majority of cases are factory built and supplies therefore the interface between buyer and seller is minimal. This is an entirely different beast when you are building in stages where there is the toing and froing to the dealer for parts.
Again we hear about the nightmares some individuals have these are normally in the minority unfortunately these are the ones which leave a bad taste in the mouth. Remember Michael Jackson he was a Legend until someone complained about him as with many other people in life, we somehow forget all the positive stories all too easy.
No doubt if you followed the Caterham westfield forums there would again be disatified customers. Personall I wouldnt have a Caterham or a Westfield as the owners I have met to date that own these cars ( please dont take offence the realists on Locost who own these) Have all been self centred, pompus, daydremers with way to much cash and they couldn't give two shxts about guys like us building and enjoying our cars. Thats not to say they are all the same as I haven't met them all.
Westy1994 - 31/3/13 at 06:48 PMWithout changing the topic too much, yes I agree Austin man, this is why i prefer to post here and not on the site for my car, any flavour of 7 is cool for me, and I like reading and commenting on cars that are not just all westys as well, some dam good cars out there just now...
daniel mason - 31/3/13 at 06:55 PMif you met me,you would realise i am not pompus, self centered and definately not got much cash. i may lack a little knowledge compared to some but i am self taught and have no real help with my builds.
my caterham was by far the best handling car i have ever driven and i have had loads of cars as some will know
if i did have more cash i would defo buy another but i dont. i also dont post there forum as i think its a rip off! but pm blatchatters by email
SCAR - 31/3/13 at 06:56 PMI think scootz is winding us up (and then sitting back while we take the bait), makes for good banter though.

emwmarine - 31/3/13 at 07:04 PMIt's an inspired post.
My tuppence would be to have Dax above Westfield ad maybe Raw above them as well.
Westfield may have the edge on the support and build but I think both Dax and Raw drive better. IMHO.

Westy1994 - 31/3/13 at 07:13 PMScootz needs to tell us if indeed aftersales and spares come into this, as mentioned already that has had an effect on the posts. I can't comment on anything other than my car since its the only kit I have owned, all the rest being production cars - I missed out there didn't I?....

As said in my post those I have met with their cars Brollies, jackets, etc etc etc have all been up themselves I was hoping to Meet u at Donnington Daniel but the snow threw a spanner in the works. You have a caterham, which you are modding to suit you and dare we say it changing the engine ( the Caterham purist squad will be out to get ya) this my man gives you my accolade along with the Other westy and Caterham guys on here. We live in the real world. Will no doubt catch up withe you at another race meet somewhere. We travel to Brands and up to the north East watching the 750 And BARC.

Bugger I forgot all about them! Before I refer them to the panel for inclusion... I have to ask - are they still in business???
scootz - 31/3/13 at 08:34 PMJust a bit of fun chaps... and perhaps there is a basis for something a little more concrete in amongst all this too.
The kits I've owned are:
Caterham
Quantum
MK
Procomp
Formula 27
The Caterham was the clear winner. It drove and felt like a factory car should. After-sales were excellent and bullet-proof residuals.
The Quantum came second... was very well put together and drove very smartly. After-sales were top drawer. An underrated car in Seven-a-like circles.
The Procomp was a race-car warhorse when it arrived... and (sadly) it never turned a wheel in my ownership. The chassis was very well fabricated, and the assistance I got from Matt was first class. I've never heard a bad word said about the cars abilities, or manufacturer back-up.
The Formula 27 was an odd-fellow. Well constructed and decent handling, but some bizarre design features. A bargain at the price I paid. No after-sales to speak of as the company was defunct.

SCAR - 31/3/13 at 09:29 PMOwned 7 Westfields and now have a v8 viento
Its even impossible to say which was the best Westfield as they have all been quite different and it depends what you wanted to do.
One that sticks out though was a pre lit model with live rear end and a tuned 1660 crossflow with 4 speed box, so not too impressive a spec. The previous owner had used it for track days and sprints, it was a hoot on the road. You could thrash the nuts off it without being too fast and hang the back end out for full 360 degree circuits of large local roundabouts (when no other traffic about) Eventually sold it to the trade for £300 more than I paid.

Yes don't forget Vindicator too
scootz - 31/3/13 at 09:43 PMVindicator is duly elected to the Highland League (purely on account of that safari-bus style 7-a-like that takes 12 people... 2 standing!).
SCAR - 31/3/13 at 09:47 PMRemember being in a dealers showroom once listening to a salesmen telling a punter that the (massively overpriced) car in front of him was a copy of a Caterham which were worth £10k plus
The car in question................. a TJ Hornet!

Aussies are always welcome! I've heard good things about the Elfin, but could do with some corroborative information before scientifically placing them in my scientific league structure.

Subtle things like, desirability, residuals, etc. (I think).
Benzine - 1/4/13 at 11:54 AMWith a diesel MK i must be facing relegation from the Highland league Underdogs ftw!
Westy1994 - 1/4/13 at 11:56 AMHere's one for your league rules - Resale value, my car for instance is worth far less than than a Cat7 on a age V's spec basis, and always will be.
SCAR - 1/4/13 at 12:05 PMThats very harsh on the GBS zero and where would you position Robin Hood (you could exclude any sliding pillar front suspension models, cough) thats bound to raise debait (considered spelling).
What about Du..........Du.......Dut......Dutt.......no, cant say it.
Of course your list cannot be definative as some talented people have taken rubbish kits and built very nice cars
RK - 1/4/13 at 12:12 PMThere are so many factors, but one which stands out is clearly professionalism and service from the company. The cars are all what you make of them, as it were. There are some New Zealand outfits too: Fraser, and the MacGregor as well, but we'll never know the customer service bit, and they aren't anywhere else in the world. Ditto with my Deman.
I think this thread is cool just because you get to think about all the choices and what you'd do if given the chance.

Zagato - 2/4/13 at 02:01 PMGood to hear how well the Caterhams are respected and more importantly how well they hold their value. I have spent a while reading 'Blatchat' and they are not without their problems but the company does eventually get things sorted. The build support does seem very good. The lads on it seem OK, down to earth, up for a chippy run down to the South Coast.
