Time to consider a replacement for my 53 plate Mondeo TDCI 130, its been a difficult journey (sic) so far and with injectors being tested today if the
bill is to much it goes to the big scrapyard in the sky
BUT what do I replace it with?
I like the power and economy mix but the MK3 Mondeo has a raft of problems all of which hit at 80k to 100k
What should I consider?

In most cases it just the injectors need reprogramming and tank and pipes flushed through and a new filter cost was about £180
If you do need to scrap it I may buy the wheels off you as I need new ones as I have damaged two of mine, and I can put my old wheels on yours to get
it to the scrappy

Yes I'm thinking I may scrap it myself
It has a few more emerging issues than just the injectors, the sum of which adds in money, time and for some of the jobs just awkward without a 4 post
lift
After all this ill still have a car worth about 1k

Ah, but you will know the car is still good, and way better than most 1k cars out there.
Our zafira is similar, but never goes wrong. It now has about 120k on it, but has cost less than £100 in actual parts besides service items. That is
in 8 years! So if it needs a clutch (£300 for parts) would I do it? yes, and possibly a light engine refresh too as it is using a bit of oil. Total
cost will be the same as the cars value BUT I would hope it will give a few more years service.
the problems is when the cars keep having sizeable bills, but not enough to scrap them for any one of them....
As to replacement, japanese is a fair bet, but most recent diesels are fraught with issues, usually expensive.
my honda crv now has 13 years and 200k on the clock with no unexpected probs.
mind you i did 150k with no props to talk of on my 2.2 mondeo before it was written off by a kind (now licenceless) gentleman on the m8

If you know the car's provenance, I'd be inclined to fix it and keep running it. All cars have their issues and most will need some
non-service work at that age/mileage. Unless you replace it with something significantly newer and lower mileage the chances are you'll be doing
the same again in fairly short time.
Like Cliftyhanger, our Y plate Alhambra keeps rumbling on (126k currently) with minimal attention and cost. It's worth £1,500 at best, but if it
needed a new clutch or turb etc. I'd fix it and keep it going.

Injector leak of kit to test them £70
Draper socket to remove injectors £6
4x injectors tested £40
Kit to reprogram injectors £16 eBay
3 injectors £155 each
Filter £12
Drained tAnk and flushed fuel lines
Labour was free as I did it myself
Car now goes like a train again.
So u could knock 70 off for the tester if you don't need it as a yours are already T the tester
If you know what type of injector they are a mondeo mk3 breakers DP Luton ltd on 01582864577 do a set of tested 2nd hand injectors for £65 each or
£200 for four I was just unluck that mine were a rare type (202z)
I'd even happily come and help,you fit/ program them

Avensis as to be top of the list just make sure it has a decent servive history as using the wrong oil (should be 5w/30 full synth) or long
gaps between oil changes can lead to piston slap -- not generally a show stopper but annoying.
Problem with cars approaching the ten year mark is at some point in the near future they will need the brakes renewed and a question mark has to
hang over the clutch.
