Basically just bought a 1996 Ford Probe 2.5 V6 24v manual
I plan on racing it on short oval budget formula which basically allows any road car Fwd or Rwd up to 3 liter as it is of the road
Below are a few cars in the formula all seem to be competitive
325 Bmw's
V6 mondeos
306 Gti's
2.0 hondas
1.8 Celicas
Honda prelude and so on ....
Has anyone had a v6 probe ?
Any chance of it keeping up ?
Do they handle ?
One thing i do know there a seriously ugly car
Ryan
I know folks who have had them and they dont rave about handling. Its probably not the best option but they look like a racing car out the box.
Any engine mods allowed ?
Rules state that engines must remain standard apart from being allowed to put a a full injected car onto carb's
However everyone seems to be getting away with things so if its not to obvious im sure it will be fine , What did you have in mind ?
There is no price money just a plastic cup but it would be nice to try and make the car competitive if possible

I used to own a V6 Probe, even took it to a track day in standard trim to Donington (Ohh that was a learning curve! Was still young then...)
They Probe's are under powered and overweight, the brakes are pathetic (got 2 laps of Donny before they failed) and they even failed to haul me
up after a refresh coming off the motorway at a spirited speed.
This was on a 26k mile car at the time.
The only saving grace is they do handle for a fat tin top, I upset (Surprised) one or two much better cars through the bends and the back end when it
does let go is very easy to recover even from a slip angle of disbelief (A 944 owner behind me got the shock of his life).
I recall even with high temp grease the wheels got so hot you couldn’t go near them for 25 minutes as you watched said Greece leaking out the hubs so
ventilation to the brakes/wheels is very poor, update the pads and disks the callipers have the bite of my 90 year old granny.
They do sound good though and they can go round a bend well, they just don’t get up to speed and worse don’t stop well, I think they are only 165bhp
if memory servs?
Edit to add it's the same Chassis and running gear as the Mazda from the same time frame, if that helps the parts were all interchangeable, I
used to buy Mazda parts as at the time it was cheaper.
