What do we think? apart obviously from it's extremely ugly!

My MX5 is showing it's age in terms of the shell and I miss a proper kit car, as I already have the MX5 and all the good add on/upgrade bits it would be a pretty cheap kit car. I've been looking at the Mev forum (a lot), the standard of welding on the chassis looks hmmmmm tbh but obviously they all rave about it. Anyone from Locostbuilders got any real life experience with them?

Yep I built one they drive fantastically. Infact they drive so well you actually forget what they look like plus with the right selection of shiny bits you can make them slightly less ugly.

well that was my thoughts really - it's basically a much lighter MX5 and there is nothing wrong with how an MX5 handles hmmm - it all goes together ok then? and is decent enough quality??

Looks ok , but must be heavier with all the added bodywork ?

Heavier than the full space frame kits based on the mx5, but lighter than the original mx5.

I think with that kit is it's a body kit of sorts?? So you need a sound shell??

The MEV stuff just uses the backbone chassis part of the MX5, i.e. a rotten MX5 is best...

No it's a rebody. So replaces original body in full.

The X5 is effectively a body kit and is bonded to what is left of the mx5 bodyshell.

The Exocet is a re-chassis and as such requires an IVA. Just to make things even more interesting there is a lightweight version of the Exocet which does not use the heavy mx5 suspension/subframes.

And a light weight version of the mevx5 that does need IVA.

Nah, I was thinking of keeping it simple - the lightweight Mev X5 does appeal BUT I can see that getting expensive because you'd end up wanting to paint it I suspect, the other two don't add much to a stock MK1 MX5 for me
