kit car for sale website
kentmagpie - 12/5/13 at 11:08 AM

I've been toying with the idea for a while of setting up a pure kit car sales website. I've bought and sold a few cars myself and everytime I've had to dabble with ebay, pistonheads, gumtree etc.finding the process rather annoying. I know there's a couple of related sites trying this but my personal opinion is their not very good. I'm talking about a well structured site with all manufacturers listed and their models. So people who maybe looking for an MNR will have the choice of looking in sub headings of either bike engine or car engine cars within the MNR section.
There's loads of different manufacturers out there selling different types of car and it would be nice to get them all on one website. I'm not even thinking of money at all at the moment, I love kit cars, buying them, owning them but I dont like selling them cos of the mish mash system on other sites. I just wanna know everyones opinion on whether it's a complete waste of time or whether it's something I should seriously look into with some people's input and support?
Thanks for reading my guff and i appreciate any input.

I think it could be a good idea, the 7 style kits particularly are so similar, someone that wants one but doesn't know much about them, must find the amount of different options daunting!

Thanks

Aaron

The problem I see is getting people to know your site. I just typed into ebay kit car and then sub heading gave me the cars and vehicles where all the kit cars are for sale. I then looked on pistonheads, again has its own kit car section.

So you are going to have to do something really special to get people to know your site and then hope it gets the traffic that ebay and pistonheads gets. The biggest issue is to get your site high up on the google search, and to do that will be some work.

I don't want to sound negative, I'm all for the promotion of our industry and what it has to offer, but if someone wants a bike engined MNR for example then they will already know where to look. If someone wants a 7 style car and does not know much about kits then its simply ebay or pistonheads.

Maybe you need to offer a whole lot more than just cars for sale, maybe parts, insurance, links to forums, track days, clubs, meets, etc to make it more attractive and get traffic to it.

Good luck

A good friend of mine designed this which kinda fits the bill you are describing. Never going to be as big as a conventional cars for sale website as there just isn't the volume:

I agree with all this and it would be hard work and much up keep to get the site high up on Google. Although pistonheads is good i feel it could be beefed due to it's slight lazy nature. I missed out on a mk Indy busa the other day as it was advertised in the mk Indy section rather than the bec section. Although technically correct I was to busy keeping a beady eye on the bec section and got trumped. This is wot made me think about this to start with as I was annoyed at missing out.

I know what you mean about missing out on things that are posted in the wrong section. A well arranged organised and well known kit car sale website is definitely needed, just has to be right from the start.

Plus I hate piston heads, so much crap on there and bad adverts makes me not bother trawling though the good stuff!!
