Best way to clean old petrol tank
steve8274 - 16/6/13 at 10:47 AM

Hi all
Recently acquired an old mini Mayfair. It hasn't been run for 10 years and been stored in an old shed.
The petrol tank looks full of gunk. What's the best way of cleaning it all out?
Also anyone know any decent welders close to wigan.
Both sills need doing
Thanks

Heres a guide from frost.

Ive also seen an article in a magazine a couple of years ago about using a jack chain with nuts and bolts attached being put inside the tank and then shaking it around a lot to loosen off gungk inside, that was on a motorbike tank though, and I think it was to remove old liner material so it could be relined.

I guess this depends if the gunk is crusted on to the sides or just sludge at the bottom

Looking inside, it looks like sludge at bottom.
Looked at frost stuff and they show as out of stock

Big hand full of gravel and give it a good shaking
