Off for a jaunt across france soon (Dieppe to st mare eglise),i can go via toll roads, fast but boring and expensive or the scenic route, googlemaps mention "D" roads, will these be cart tracks with tractors or relaxing and what sort of traffic could i encounter in the towns (saturday afternoon) merci pour votre peuple d'entrée
Those are 'departmental' roads conrod. In the scale of things over here you get autoroutes, nationales which are the main routes, often dual
carriageways then you get the departmentals. In general the best roads to enjoy driving on over here. Equivalent to a B road in the UK. You'll
get traffic in towns just as in the UK... After the departmental roads you get unclassified stuff which is pretty much all tarmac too. The are a fair
few dirt tracks but if you use a GPS these will generally alert you to any unsurfaced road on your route.
HTH,
Mike
Cheers mike, looks like the scenic route for us then
If you set your sat-nav to fastest route and no toll roads you'll see some nice roads. Don't set it for shortest or you'll go through every village centre and a few single track roads.
im off to normandy august 3rd.........
4 hrs from calais...toll roads all the way...!!!!!
i might try a different route tho....
4 hours and toll roads?,thats why i opted for the short and scenic route plus 4 hours on the boat with some nice sea air
