I have an old (04) A6 which has been making the usual CV grumbling noises from the left for a while and now the right hand side is joining in. Having taken a look both covers have split so it's change time. Where is the best place to get these from, new not reconned, in the UK?

Thanks for that. They have two different qualities available. 'Standard' or 'GKN' at £29 and £86 respectively. Is it worth the extra? Or is the cheapo one dodgy? I don't know GSF at all so am unable to draw a sensible conclusion.

Normally with parts I would say buy the best you can afford but with GSF and eurocarparts I'm not so sure it applies so much. I service our battered zafira family bus with the cheaper end of service parts and they have been spot on. I recently serviced a neighbours car and he bought the higher priced branded parts and the quality of some bits was quite poor.

With bearings or cv's I tend to stick to skf gkn etc if not buying genuine.

I also have an a6 similar age and did the front cv's with the cheap eurocarparts ones 2 years ago done 40000miles since and they are still ok. It eats front wishbones though.

I use GSF and sometimes Euro for my Audi 80 parts. Last year I changed an inner CV boot, due to the age of the car only a cheap branded part was available from Euro. Its failed in less than year, previously I have had OEM boots that have been much more durable. So the joint may be good but boots may fail quickly.
Ask your self what the cost of you time is compared to the number of times you have to do the job due to poor parts.

I've used J&R CV Joints in the past and found them to be good. Cheap too

Since QH went down the drain in Febuary getting quality aftermarket parts has become more difficult and expensive, QH CV joint stretch boots were by far the best quality.
