I feel that Dan is threatening my 'change-of-plans' title, so I'm sniffing around another kit to bump up my figures!
The only thing that I REALLY don't like about this particular kit though is the 2.0 Pinto engine in it. It's heavy, not particularly
powerful and not particularly frugal (which is important as the car would be doing the commute all year round).
The most obvious engine swap is a Duratec (inlet / exhaust on the same sides and it mates easily enough to a Type 9). I would want to keep it on
Carbs though to keep the swap costs down, so I guess the first question is... would a Carb'd 2.0 Duratec be any more frugal than a similarly
Carb'd Pinto? Or more thirsty???
The second question is... the Pinto is on Webber 40's. Would these be a suitable to swap onto a Duratec, or would it be better off with
45's?
Over to you folks...
Daily driver and you want webers nonono.
You want nice factory fuel injection
I will be the first to ask what's it going in ?
Hmmmm.... factory FI you say? Hadn't thought of that. I'd just thought about super expensive aftermarket ITB stuff!
So, are Fords (say an ST150) ECU relatively straightforward to use when the engine is no longer inside it's intended application?
PS - can't say what it is yet as Dan might nip in and buy it from under my nose!
I've not done an st150 yet, vid above is an st170 (my current/last project). St170 is way more complex than the st150 and although its says
Duratec, it isn't.
The ecu has an immobilizer other than that its just an ecu like any other. There are a few more connections than others due to sequential injection.
As per vid, It just works. just preaching the word
You may have a convert!
Now if you go zetec I have posted an how to if your good with wiring, and an ecu can be had for a tenner.
There is a breaker that does the st170 ecu for £20
Curated ECU has PATS and needs to see the Ford dash amongst other stuff
You can run the original FI with Megasquirt
