Wondering what you guys think.
I've just bought myself a Brian James race shuttle to move my Radical around in.
Seems a bit of a shame to have it sitting there doing nothing when it could be paying for itself.
Do you think it would be worth me hiring it out and if so what kind of insurance would I require?
I'm obviously worried that ot maybe stolen or damaged by whoever hires it so what steps could be put in place to prevent this happening?
Or is this an idea best left alone?

The only way to be sure would be to insist on a cash deposit to match the cost of its replacement. Not really feasable.
Equally, you will have to expect damage. My friends parents recently bought a nearly-new camper van with the intention of hiring it out, and using
themselves when required. Targeting the top end on price and provisions, etc.
First time it ever went out, the swiped the mirrors off the drivers side driving it out of the gate!
You will have do some sums on what you think you can get for it, verses devaluation, damage, wear and tear, insurance, etc. and work out if its worth
you time.

The only trailer hire place that is local to me is, co-incidentally, the place that builds trailers locally.
I do wonder if there is a link there - i.e. it's easy for them to take the hit if things get nicked/damaged - as they replace at a lower cost
than a private owner would have to deal with....
The deposit for a 2 axle trailer to carry a 7 was £60 when I hired one from them. I assume the trailer would cost a LOT more than that to actually buy
- a £750 deposit would have been a bit off-putting I think - i would have gone looking for another hire company at that point...
If it were me - i'd only hire to people who I trusted to take very good care of it - in fact to treat it as their own. That'd be my mates -
and i'd never take money from my mates to borrow my stuff - so it'd be available to them FOC on a 'you bend it, you mend it' basis
- with the unspoken expectation they'd buy me a beer as thanks...
I have an RS5 also for shipping the toys about.
I thought for a while I could hire it while it's not being used but it's way too much of a risk, it would be ruined after a year of use and
at the guts if 7k to replace you would need a SERIOUS deposit. The GRP is not easily fixed/ matched/ repaired and you could be sure the gypsies would
have it on the back of a transit and in Dublin before you could blink an eye.
splashing the cash this week gaz
you must have a very understanding other half!
Hiring out an ordinaty BJT would be worrying enough but a shuttle version I think is likely to see it tatty quickly.
I think a better bet would be buy a cheap trailer for a grand and hire that out
or hire yourself, tow car and shuttle trailer as a car moving service, that way you get to make a few quid on your investment but have control over
the conditions
All points valid and taken on board.
I'd rather leave the trailer in my garage and know its safe and looked after than make a few quid.
