the central locking on the drivers door has stopped working
if i lock it manually with the key in the drivers door - then all the doors lock
if i try the remote or the other door - the drivers door doesn't lock so it instantly unlocks all the other doors again too
I can't hear the drivers door making any effort at all when trying to lock it so I'm suspecting a dead motor or something else expensive
anyone got any other ideas ?
(its a mk1 focus)
i need to sort this for near enough zero £ (it just not worth spending any money on it anymore)
Sounds very much like the solenoid has curled up its toes.
If you can be bothered to dismantle the lock and remove the solenoid or motor..
You can usually clean them up and get them tip top again..
My Toyota uses a small motor which only ever turns half a turn..
Simply dismantle - put 12v up the motor - it spins up n cleans armature..
Good as new ,,
I did all 4 doors on a Sunday afternoon
If you hear a noise from the lock then it isn't an electrical fault and the only fix is a new latch assembly. These days the motor/solenoid is
integral with latch and the latch can't be stripped down.

If it's a Golf then good luck!
My son has had nothing but issues with his Mk4, apparently it never gets any better and you just end up chasing the locks around the car.

If it works with the key in the drivers side door, why bother fixing it, I'm presuming you get in and out through that door anyway.
^^ its just annoying
I've got used to the remote thing now - and if i use that now the car doesn't lock (i must have left it open 4 times this week already
)
I've just come back from a week away to find that the lock is working again
the car was just left abandoned outside my house and it seems to have fixed itself... got a feeling this is going to be one of those intermittent
electrical gremlins
