Daughters MK4 Golf regularly blows brake light bulbs - I think they all do it.

Questions: can I use LED bulbs legally? will I get a bulb failure warning? any down sides?

Which are the best ones to get?

I fitted some cheapy LED replacements to swmbos Audi A4 (it loves to eat lamps!!) and they made the high-level brake light come on dim with the side lights! I don't know if more expensive LED lamps would be any different.

Same problem with brake light bulbs lasting weeks only but LED lights brought up faults and put the car into severe limp mode. Guessing the VW software engineers put blown brake bulb under the brake failure heading and only 3 mph was permitted by the ECU in case I crashed due to having no brakes and then I might sue!

Thats insane, it assumes because the bulb is blow you have no brakes?

I was gonna say don't worry about bulb warning lights as, as far as I'm aware, it's perfectly legal to drive around with the car telling you the bulbs don't work if they actually work but from the other posts it seems theres more to it. My dads 407 frequently says the headlights aren't working when they are and all kinds of other mental warnings, but it is french.
