I had a problem with my 3.0 V6 XF nearside indicator not working after going through deep puddles at speed and put it into the dealers - UG repair and
the dealer could not be more pleasant.
Got a car same model as mine for the day - funny it seemed to go better than mine ever had - quite a bit better.
Phoned up in the afternoon to see how they were getting on.
"Yes sir all is going well they have the engine and gearbox out and will have it back in and tested for you tomorrow"
What engine out! For a light bulb!!
Turns out they put it on the diagnostic tester and found both EGR's were faulty, there is no room to change them with the 3.0 so the
engine had to come out. 10 hours plus parts. £1300 under guarantee. Yikes. Still I'm glad the dealer was so conscientious.
Oh they could not find anything wrong with the indicator so they changed the whole headlight unit.
The car goes great much better than before and I'm delighted - almost.
Two EGR's failing at 20k? Loads for sale on ebay? Not looking good for when the 3 year warranty runs out is it.
Does anyone know is this a particular production problem with a bad batch of EGR's or an ongoing problem? After the guarantee period I'll be
repairing/servicing the car myself and I'm sure the engine will not need to come out
Despite this this is the most rewarding tintop I've ever had for a driver - but is it a bad un?
Cheers!
So what make of car is it ?
Probably not a great comparison, but I've not yet found a Vauxhall that hasn't needed an EGR valve in the first five years of its life.
I wonder who thought 'I know, lets take the most inhospitable cloud of noxious gases and feed them back into the engine. Oh, and we'll do it
via a teeny tiny valve just to make sure'...

Mine is at almost 90K and is fine....
I'd be seriously pi55ed that they just went and did the job without contacting me first for
authorisation.
Old chap over the road from me had a similar experience last year when he put his 1995 Omega
V6 in for an MOT and sevice then got handed a bill for just under £1800
Eta
Didn't pick up on the warranty bit before. I'd still be miffed that they didn't me in advance.

Wow. Now you see why people block them off and do a re-map! I recently had to desludge the egr valves on my 1.5dci. Got about 100g of black sludge out of it. Took an entire can of brake cleaner to get all the stubborn bits off too.
Don't worry about it, run it for 3 years then sell it the month before the warranty runs out.
3.0 V6 XF, UG repair, both EGR's,
I think I need enigma to decode this lot?
^^^WHY?
surely its not too difficult!

maybe you drive yours like a granny!!
Erg valves n dpf filters are a nightmare if you don't drive on the motorway often n drive it hard....
All cars all makes all models. Diesel dpf is code for cost you shed loads.
That said my BMW 5 series did 240k before they all went together then the manifold n loads of carbon in everything
Whoops

At least they fixed a fault
A few years ago under warranty my Civic Type R had a new hub and in the end new gearbox due to a binding brake caliper! 12 times I went back to the
dealer and told them it was the caliper! In the end they changed the caliper and the noise stopped! Amazing.
Just get it maped and cancel the egr, best off both worlds engine pulling just as the designer intended and no stupid egr issues
