Honda Civic Brake Callipers
Scuzzle - 13/3/14 at 08:53 PM

I have a US built Honda Civic EM2 coupe which has a sticky brake calliper I need to replace. Problem is that it's an 'Akebono' braking system and calliper and not a Nissens or Lucas one like 99% of the UK Civics have.
Does anyone know if I was to buy a pair of re-manufactured Lucas callipers and pads would they fit up to my carriers as it's cheaper to go this way than buy the Akebono calliper.
I have tried asking this on Civic forums but in general they do not have a good mechanical knowledge, if you want big gay spoilers or wheels you will get pages of replies but anything mechanical and they are not so hot.

I could buy used callipers and carriers but I've no idea if they are going to be any better than what I have already.

Thanks.

I know some of the older civic owners look to the mg zs 180 for a a brake upgrade.

Worth a strip down to see if it just needs new seals ?

This piston is a bit rusty, if I push it out and sand it down it will go a few months and then start to stick again. Even buying a new piston they are all for Lucas / Nissens callipers and the suppliers cannot tell me if they will fit the Akebono calliper. I'm guessing possibly not as a Lucas calliper is £60 and an Akebono calliper is a couple of hundred.

Ask the question on EK9.org, they're pretty knowledgable on bits like that. Most of the Hondas run interchangeable brake parts and calipers/carriers all usually bolt up to the hubs.
You'll probably find a pair of UKDM calipers someone's wanting rid of as they've upgraded to 282 or 300mm discs from the 260s you've probably got?

Rover 45 callipers should fit. They do not generally suffer from sticking problems, and new seals are very easy to fit on this type.
Basically they come in 2 types for vented or unvented discs.

Thanks I'll check out the Rover callipers, usually the Rover stuff is far cheaper than Honda, I remember having a 2.7 Legend coupe that the bearings went on the distributor spindle, Honda wanted £350 for a new one and Rover were £140 for the exact same thing for the same engine in a Rover 820.

Remember you will need the calliper carrier as well.

As for Rover 820. I think you meant. 827.

I did mean 827, was the 2.7 V6, nice engine but bad for tappet noise
