OT: Hire car excess insurance.

Hi,

If anyone has hired a car in France you'll know that the CDW excess is usually around 850-1250 Euros. They offer a waiver for around 200 Euros.

Question is, has anyone bought one of those insurance excess policies from a third party that let you reclaim the excess back? If so have you used it and was it easy to get your money back? Martins Money Tips seem to recommend them...

Thanks
Jon

One thing I do know is do not hire from any car hire sold by budget airline sites, companies affiliated to both Easy jet and Jet2 have been the subject of reports claiming they charge the same minor damage to several customers.

Ok good to know. Easyjet use Europcar who I've had a problem with before. They charged me 80 Euros to top the fuel tank up, after the guy at the desk told me not to worry about it.

I've gone with Citier again who were fine last time.

All I know is get the excess. I normally do then last time I went abroad I didn't bother. The car company even e-mailed me to say they could do it for £80. And that was the time I reversed into a parked car in a 2 week old people carrier. Doh!

I've used these guys who IIRC were recommended (for what it's worth) on Martin's Money Tips - Insurance4carhire.com
If nothing else it gives you a nice, warm feeling!
