Friday Fun, Guess the fault....
AndyW - 4/7/14 at 01:29 PM

Hi all,

Having got my car back from France after a disappointing break down at Le Mans, I thought a bit of Friday fun was in order to guess the fault. Here are the DTC's that the ECU logged. Its a 2.0 blacktop running standard ecu.

P0500
P0442
P1401
P1409
PO171
PO172
PO122
P1130
P1131

Fixed now, so lets have some guesses.

Bad earth.

Out of fuel, blocked fuel filter, starts running weak and loads of codes pop up as the mixture is screwed up.

Dodgy tps or possibly lambda sensor.

p0500 No speed sensor signal, no shock there as I doubt you have one.

p0442 Evap leak, again you don't have one.

p1401 Egr, guess what. Yep your not using one.

p1409 Egr, see above.

The above four would be on the ecu with in minuets of your first drive and do not give any limp home symptoms.

p0171 Bank 1 lean

p0172 Bank 1 Rich

p0122 Tps low

p1130 O2 sensor switching, low

p1131 O2 sensor lean.

One of two things in my opinion.

Most often and my money is an air leak.

Wiring fault / break. Either with voltage supply. Earth as above or sensor earth.

So if there are no air leaks check for 12v at all the sensors.

Then disconnect the ecu and check continuity of the broken sensor common wire and the black/yellow earths.

PO171 is 'Wasted money on fancy ecu and throttle bodies - should have bought carbs instead that you could fix at the side of the road'

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Glad it is back and fixed

No air leaks, earths checked out.

The faulty part did not throw up an error code, but forced the others for some reason, replaced faulty part, cleared codes and tested, all ok. So, what was it...lol

big_wasa - 4/7/14 at 02:28 PM

What faulty part ? as a short would cause a voltage drop and give the codes ?

Only half the story blah blah blah.

Warren you have u2u

rdodger - 4/7/14 at 02:41 PM

Crank sensor?

kj - 4/7/14 at 03:13 PM

Shity grade fuel or fuel surge / air lock

sebastiaan - 4/7/14 at 03:24 PM

Fuel pressure regulator?
