My mate has got a Transit campervan with what I presume to be a 2.0 Pinto in it.
He wants an engine with a bit more oomph.
I've already warned him it will never be a sportscar with the aero of a very large house brick - but who am I to stand between a man and his
horsepower.
So, what would be a good, straight forward replacement/conversion ? Bearing in mind it'll be me that cops for the work!
It's on LPG at the minute, which would be nice to put on the new engine, but could possibly lose it in favour of something more modern which
would be better on juice anyway.
My suggestion of a V8 wasn't all that well received :-)

If its a low compression Pinto then a simple upgrade would be the injection variant and a high torque cam Kent FR30 or fr34
Carb may be single choke and a twin choke would help
V6 ESSEX if it has long bonnet will go in no bother
2.0 Black top Zetec should be a cheap and easy swap. Standard injection and gas it. should get 25 mpg but more torque and top end with better starting
and emissions.
And if he still wants more, throttle bodies, head work and a big exhaust could give him 200bhp
Or a turbo

I'm guessing a transfer to diesel is a bit too much work? I've driven petrol Transits before (albeit for house moves rather than camping)
and the characteristics of petrol just don't seem to suit the workload. An equivalent diesel (even one with lower BHP) makes it easier to
drive.
My second vote would be for the V6, just because of the number of cylinders!
I like the V6 Essex idea, I had one in my Moggy pick up years ago. I thought they might a bit thin on the ground now ?
It was bloody heavy though.
What gearbox will be in the Transit ? Will it be type 9 ?
Anyone got a tuned pinto they want sell ?
