We (mrs main car) had a yaris t sport for nearly 10 years
great car, slightly under geared, and no 2l turbo performance but no trouble at all
vvti mech stuck and left the engine light on, but we were unlucky it was a problem with very early cars but not at all common and it made no
noticeable difference to the running!
if you want to know anything else specific let me know.
Oh and we've just bought another, for daughter, this time a 1.0 with only 30k on it.
Toyota engines are very demanding on engine oil, it needs to have been run only on the correct oil (ie fully synthetic) and changed at least
according to schedule. The lubrication issue mainly relates to piston slap.
If buying make sure you hear the engine start from cold, listen for piston slap the slapping noise will fade as the pistons warm up, piston slap is
not initially a huge problem but it will get worse.

my missus is running a 2005 1.3 Yaris. Never used a drop of oil, the only expense we have ever had on it was corroded rear brake pipes. Which on a 9
year old car is to be expected. cost £20 to replace. A very solid car I've been very impressed with.
She did want the TSport but the insurance for her at the time wasn't sensible.
I'm on my second Yaris - the 1330cc engine is the same on all the models, but the sporty version has better suspension and bigger tyres. I used to have a Yaris SR, which is what the T-sport used to be called. It did handle much better than my current T-spirit, but I felt the bumps more.
