No not a bond bug but James Bond's new Aston Martin db10, mmmmmm

David Jenkins - 4/12/14 at 07:32 PM

They're only making 10, and those are all earmarked for the film...

that seems a little short sighted,.. but certain to create demand for something that people can't buy,.. what's the betting that something similar will be available at or near the film launch date,..... cynic I hear you cry,....

oh and yes it looks awesome

film launch clip

Looks good but..... Is it an Aston or a Ferrari with those styling queues

Indeed, it will set design cues for future models, its effectively a concept car with the stage being a movie rather than a motorshow.
the demand set will be for the brand as well as the car itself.

Wouldn't say no...

The rear looks very F-Type

May be because both were designed by the same guy ?

stevebubs - 5/12/14 at 02:46 AM

Let's play spot the difference...

Easier ( more difficult ??? ) to play spot the similarities

HowardB - 5/12/14 at 08:12 AM

for what it is worth, I think that the cars have similarities, but totally different poise......

wouldn't say no though, either would be fun!

JAG - 5/12/14 at 08:13 AM

Slingshot; whose the designer then?

As far as I'm aware Jaguar and Aston Martin don't share staff since they both departed from the Ford Premier Automotive Group.

slingshot2000 - 5/12/14 at 09:38 AM

Quoting Top Gears web-page;

""While very recognisably an Aston, there are also inescapable shades of Jaguar F-Type, particularly in side profile and around the DB10's hindquarters.
Given the affiliation designer Ian Callum has with both companies, that ought not to be a surprise.
And given the F-Type is a stonker, it's certainly not a bad parallel to draw.""

He has been designing cars for both marques for some considerable amount of time.

I dont see many similarities with the ferrari, yes they are both dulled/satin grey, and have big side vents and slashes, bonnet line edge and a pillar are about the only things that are ery simiar. But the Ferrari is more of a shooting brake style, much more hunched shoulders, lights flick up alot higher, grill is a smaile, where as the aston is gritting its teeth.

This makes it much clearer:

Nothing like a Ferrari
I do see the Jag rear end though
IMHO another drop dead gorgeous Aston

scootz - 5/12/14 at 11:42 AM

Nope... not seeing the Ferrari likeness either. It's a V posh Jag... and I like it!

nick205 - 5/12/14 at 11:43 AM

Both IMHO are achingly desirable cars

Heart says Aston, brain says Ferrari for me, not sure I can convey why though.

JAG - 5/12/14 at 12:03 PM

According to my sources the two Design Directors are;

Jaguar Design Director - Ian Callum

Aston Martin Design Director - Marek Reichman

Ian Callum hasn't design an Aston Martin since PAG, Jaguar and Aston Martin parted ways. He was Design Director at both companies for a short while. His last work for AML was the DB9.

morcus - 6/12/14 at 03:51 PM

I was on Bow street on Thursday night and there were five or six Astons all outside one building (I've have gotten pictures but I was already having to walk in the road and avoid rickshaws as the pavement was Jammed) a few with AML number plates, seeing the stuff about the launch makes me think they might be related, though it could just have been a coincidence.

I also think it's odd to do this when the car won't see full production, especially given it must be time to replace the DB9.
