hello all,
my wife works at a day centre for people with head injuries. The overwhelming majority of them are men. And most of the head injuries are as a result
of trauma (accidents, injuries to squaddies, RTAs etc)
They have a program of sessions with arts and crafts stuff, through to history and science. however a recent session on WW2 mentioned the VW beetle
and this sparked a whole debate about the car industry with many of them professing a love for cars bikes etc.
it occurred to me that it might be good to take a handful of cars/bikes/kits, modified/classics anything interesting really over one day as a bit of a
break from the usual basket weaving/arts and crafts stuff they do.
The tricky bit would be that it would need to be in the daytime. i'm lucky in that i can juggle my hours a bit and take the kit over (when it
has a new MOT) but i know its tricky. but i think it might be a really good thing to do with our cars for chaps who were just like us until the
unthinkable happened to them.
what do you reckon?
if there is a few of us interested i'll formally contact the charity and see if they would allow it .
cheers
paul
Great Idea Paul, a worthy cause, as you say, they are just like us but have been unlucky. If my car was on the road i would volunteer straight away.
Hope you get a positive response.
Good luck, Pojo
I did a similar thing when I was a member of the Triumph TR register years ago, about ten of us turned up in classic cars, it was a fantastic day
& went down a storm :-)
Unfortunately my kit is in a million unbuilt pieces, if you manage to pull it off, make sure we get some photos - I was absolutely buzzing on the
drive home when I did it & the feedback we got from staff, patients & family members was great.
That's a great idea.
Some time ago we did a similar thing with the guys at Headley Court.
Not only the lads but the staff were very enthusisatic and thoroughly enjoyed the passenger rides on offer.
Besides promoting it on here why not post on P/Heads?
BOL in making it happen.
Cheers, Pewe10
I'm sure my Dad would do it with his, but it's not IVA'd yet.
Maybe at the end of the year.
Good luck!

I'm only over in Derby so would be more than happy to trailer my sprint car over (see picture), it would only be a static display though as it is
not road legal but it does look (and sound) pretty mental. Unless there is a big carpark there were we could run it!
Might be fun to strap people in and let them try and beat the MSA minimum getting out time through the Harness, Kirkey Seat and Full Roll cage.
I appreciate that it might be appropriate to cover up the bonnet stickers as well for such an event.
Anyway drop me a U2U if interested.

Hi Paul,
Great idea. Count me in, although whether I can make it or not will depend on the exact day that's chosen. That said, with enough notice my
diary is reasonably flexible. The only other constraint would be that if its p-ing it down, my car is not weather proof.

Is that picture from Thorsby sprint last September? I was competing in that and remember your car!!!
Sorry for being off topic, you can count me in for the day however I will have to see if the car is back together and running first. I'm in Coventry so not a million miles away from me.
Matt
I should be sprinting with the HSA again this year (hopefully), will see you at some events I would guess, I'll come and say hello if I see your
car!
Matt
I am over at Burton on Trent, so I could support with the Indy.
assuming my car goes through the IVA okay you can probably count me in.
brill thats a great response guys. i'll get onto the charity and see what they reckon.
paul
Great idea Paul, have you ever been to the classic car meets at the Griffins head? Maybe drum up some interest there too when the meets restart in May?
I could bring the Spyder along, subject to the date and the weather.
count me in depending on day and weather
That's a really nice idea for a very good cause.
I did a similar thing a few years ago for the children's cancer unit at the local hospital.
Managed to get 23 westy's there and 3 Ultimas, Oh and a Ferrari 355 turned up
There was a lot of organising to do for it and if I can offer any help on what we had to do etc please feel free to PM me.
Hello all,
i have just heard back from the charity and they were very enthusiastic. I'll do a reckie over the next few days and see what space there is and
get back to you.
Paul
ok chaps, the charity; Headway have suggested the 14th of April as a suitable date for them. Can anyone make it?
Paul
Yeah I probably can. Do you have an idea of where it is and what time?
time is up to us, I'd suggest 11 or so? to give people time to get there without dealing with the rush hour traffic.
address is here.

I can probably make it, again all dependent on weather the car is "road worthy" or not at the time.

I'm off that week!
Car will be road worthy (it better be as its off for a trip to the highlands with RHOCaR on the 18th) and I will do my damn best to be there!
I have no plans as yet for that day....
If it's not peeing it down I'm pretty close and get over easily.
That's only about 4 miles from where I live and I am free on that day, so count me in as long as the weather doesn't stop me from getting there.
I should be OK for this, weather depending.
I'll be there as long as it's not chucking it down.
I'm a bit far away from you and don't have anything interesting on the road at present (despite owning 8 cars). I have always wanted to do
some charity car based events and your idea has given me another avenue to look into so thank you for that and best of luck with your event.
I am sure that everyone involved (patients and car owners) will have the greatest buzz, there is nothing like doing something for someone else to
give you that satisfaction and feel good factor.
Hope you have a great day and keep us all informed of how it goes (pictures are a must) it will help to give others, like myself, more encouragement
to do similar events for others less fortunate.
I take my hat off to you Sir, you are a true gentleman.
Good shout, lets go for 1pm
I'll up date you nearer the time with any more info (including a route that avoids speed bumps )

hello all,
sorry for the delay in updates. One of the service users passed away last week unexpectedly so all this sort of thing has been on hold.
Anyway. I've done a quick drive around and its worth having a look at the map here: http://binged.it/1Cwiivy
If you are coming from the south of Nottingham :
In a kit car, or anything slightly lower than normal its worth avoiding Wigman Road as it has five or six really horrible speed bumps. (i used to
catch the exhaust on my standard MG260 quite badly on them) Aspley Road is a better bet.
If you are coming from the South or just via the M1 its a very easy five minute drive from junction 26 via the A610 and Woodhouse Way.
Best regards
paul
The weather is looking good and the car is working, so I will be there
Has a suitable meeting time been arranged yet? Morning suits me best but can be flexible
I thought that we had settled on 1pm - at least that's what I thought and when I'm planning on turning up.
By the way, I'm just down the road from you in Eastwood.
[Edited on 11/4/15 by SteveWallace]
PM me your number Steve if you get a chance and maybe we can nip down together.
1pm is ok for me.
Official start at 1pm but I should be thre from 12:30. I'll be the overdressed one in a suit!
Hello, do you have enough people attending, I'm still happy to do so ?
If any one said anything, I was just making sure I knew where to go . Nothing to do with getting the date wrong 😉. See you tomorrow.
I'll try and get down if I can get some time off work. I will be in an Austin A35 if OK.
Ian
headway April 2015
Great afternoon out and a good turn out. The folk at the centre really seemed to get something out of it and we had an excuse to drive our cars on a
nice sunny afternoon for a good cause. It was also good to meet fellow locostbuilders in the area.
My only down side was the misfire that developed on the way. I managed to get the car to limp home and I think that I've traced the problem to a
loose connector (at least, I remade the connection and it runs ok now). I just need to get some mileage under my belt to regain confidence and to
make sure that I've not done any permanent damage by driving it on less than the regulation number of cylinders.
thanks to everyone who could make it. A great days weather and a lovely afternoon with the cars.
Michael from headway has just sent this which i wanted to pass on:
Just a quick message to say a HUGE thank you to you, Jon and all the people who came along. Everyone loved seeing and being around the cars and how
fortunate were we with the weather too...
I am extremely grateful to them all for giving up their time and making our day!! Its not everyday we get to see people walk away with big smiles and
yesterday was one of those rare days!
Please can you pass on my thanks officially from Headway Nottingham to them all.
Thank you so so much again
Michael
I'm gutted I couldn't make it, sorry guys looks like you had a good turnout and a great time meeting up and showing off the cars! I
don't think I would have been able to get there running on only two cylinders - still unsure if I will make it to the Stoneleigh kit car show
Matt
Hello everyone,
after last years first visit to headway, how would people feel about a return visit to headway?
Paul
I would be up for that as long as it's a day that I can make it.
As long as I'm around, I'll be there.
Count me in.
Only just seen this, I would go next time date depending
What date and time are you thinking?
Im just waiting for some dates back from Headway. times will be p to us again i think, the service users are generally there all day, so as long as
we avoid lunchtime we'll be fine. i will post as soon as they send me some possible dates over.
as before the more the merrier.
regards
paul
hello all, headway are pretty relaxed about when we come and there are a range of possible dates, but i'm not quite sure what the best way is to
sort out which one to go for.
anything from the 25th July to the 15th of august looks good for them.
Remember this will be week days only as the centre only runs then.
those of you in the midlands who might be interested do you want to comment below and we'll pick the date the most of us an make?
let me know too if you prefer am or pm.
do also let me know if there is a better way to sort this out!
Cheers
paul
I more than likely can attend :-)
I'll mention it in the gtm owners club too
paul
Sorry, I'm late to the party, I'm on in Sheffield and willing to bring my 7 along.
I WFH so can work flexy and turn up and work my day around it. Just let me know the final date and I can commit then.
Well done that man, great idea.
great stuff, is it just best if i suggest a date or two?
paul
Please suggest the dates.
ok how about the 29th of July in thw afternoon. its a friday so there might be odd person who finishes at 12 that can make it without taking time
off?
Paul
hello all,
sorry for the delay, le mans classic the lots of work to do afterwards got in the way. Headway cant do the 29th but i have suggested the fourth of
august in the afternoon. (its a thursday) it would be great if some of you could make it.
regards
paul
I should be OK for that.
Great stuff
Works for me as long as its not raining. My car will not even have the bad miss fire like it developed on the way last time (hopefully!). What time do you want us there?
One o'clock, then they should have finished lunch.
meant to say that in the last post
Cheers
paul
What time will it be on until?
probably a couple of hours? i think the last one was that long
I'll see if I can bring the pick-up and race car along but depends on what time I can get out of work.
that would be great, fingers crossed :-)
Sorry i can't make this, hope you have a good afternoon
hello all,
just a quick reminder that we are still on for this thursday. lets hope the weather picks up a bit by then. We'll also have teas coffees and
biscuits on hand for you all this time.
paul
Weather is looking OK, so hopefully see you there.
