As we don't have tax disc's any more if you leave the holder in your windscreen will it fail the mot as cars do for having stickers and after market sun visors

It does still pass at the moment, until a special notice is issued to remove from acceptable list.
I did query this while doing my refresher course a couple months ago.
The sat nav however is a fail, along with the dice/air fresheners etc, but most people seem to put them back after the mot, seeing where they're going is only a secondary concern!

I understand the reasons for the rules, but in practice they are a one size fits all - literally!

My wife could place the satnav in the swept area, towards the top of the screen and due to her small stature, she'd be looking right under it with no obstruction of vision; similarly, if I were to place it right in front of me, but at the bottom of the screen, I'd be looking right over it! Both would of course be MOT fails. Neither of us use these positions anyway.

The "Car MOT Manual 2012" states "’Official’ stickers that are not readily removable, such as vehicle licences, parking and access permits, are only a reason for rejection if they seriously restrict the driver’s view. ’Official’ stickers should be taken to be any sticker that is used in connection with ’road enforcement’, ’ security’ or ’crime prevention’ matters. These include: Disabled Persons Badges-permits, Parking Permits, Licences and Vehicle Anti-Theft Scheme stickers issued by a Police Authority." So having a parking permit in the old tax disk holder should presumably be ok.
