mondeo rear spring removal

Anyone removed a rear spring from a mk4 mondeo?

Trying to do this on my 58 plate hatch, but can't. get access with the two different types of spring compressors I have. Any recomendations? Don't. want to pay £500 for the Ford "special tool".

Thanks,
Simon

have used ratchet straps in the past on other cars.... but watch your fingers

The wrong way is often using a jack under the spring/suspension arm and some flesh based ballast in the back seat to compress the spring, then apply ratchet straps (hell, I've seen zipties used, thick ones should do the job*) anything to hold it compressed.

Obviously, there's a risk of death, so like, wear safety glasses or something.

*Proper heavy duty zipties have a tensile strength >150lbs, I still wouldn't trust em

The rear of most fwd cars don't usually have much preload on the rear springs. On a lot of them with the car on stands and a jack under the lower arm once the damper and antiroll bar are undone just lower the jack and the spring falls out.
