I'd forgotten my licence was about to expire (the photo can't be older then ten years old).

Thanks for the reminder, mine expires end of august. It says you'll get a reminder before expiry but best to be safe and not rely on that I'd say. Renewal takes a week if you apply online so it says, and costs £14. Could be worse I guess.

Got mine through in 2 days when I renewed last week, pretty good service.

I'll have a look as I think mine needs renewing soon, I was assuming I'd get a reminder.

Might be a stupid question but how do you send a photo for the online one?

They can take it from your passport, you don't need to send anything. Takes about 10min online.

They can only take it from the passport one if the photo is less than 10 years old.
To send a photo via the interweb, you have to look directly at your monitor/tablet/phone and tap the screen twice.
