My new 944 turbo S Rat!

Picked up this stunner yesterday - underneath that 'patina' it is the Turbo S model complete with all the Porsche upgrades (M030?), big brakes, adjustable dampers, bigger turbo, LSD etc.

Gremlins are about 80% in charge of the electrics, Paintwork is vinyl spray (where it has stayed on!) and the interior fittings are mostly loose or missing (but it does have nice porsche fully scripted seats in VGC). Recipe for disaster? Probably.

You are very brave - does it run? It will make a cool track day car however if electric problems don't impinge on running.

Yes it runs, drives and is MOT'd. Guy was using it as a daily hack (complete with trailer and tow bar!) and had another 3 or 4 944's in various states in his garden. It was stripped with cage and buckets and was running on 20" GT3 style wheels!!! I didn't want any of that though so we came to a deal including the interior from another S2 and I sourced the wheels.

It wont be used for track as we have the MK for that, I'm hoping to run round in it for a few weeks and sus it out, then make a decision on what way to go with it.

Electrical issues are all ancillary really, but that doesnt make them any easier to fix! intermittent blower, cooling fan runs permanently, DME relay (controls ECU and pump) has been 're-engineered' and the central locking just whirs away doing its own thing!

Seems to drive well, but initial impressions are that its not running anywhere near the factory 250bhp!

They are my favourite Porsche, and would love another one, but can't justify it.

I did find the switchgear very flimsy, washer wiper in particular.

With a 50 /50 weight balance they handle really sweet too.

Worth the time and effort in my opinion....

Mind telling us how much you paid?

I like 944 and considered it as an alternative when I was looking at kit cars. Along with a E30 BMW with modern engine transplant.

I paid £3500 for it - minus the wheels it was on (stupid 20" GT3 type wheels!) so had to source these boxster wheels sharpish (£230). Being the last and most desirable I think my money is reasonably safe, but as with anything like this a few big issues and it could soon cost me a lot more.

They are undoubtedly going up in value though - I've always wanted one and unfortunately a ratty one is the only way I can afford or justify it before they become out of reach!

I had a 1986 Turbo for several years as a daily driver. Running 300BHP it was one of my Favourite cars....sadly cost a fortune to run !
