Just bought a used A3 and after driving it a little (I.e. on my own without the sales guy banging on about the working air con), come to the
conclusion that the road noise from the tyres is on a par with a bag of marble in a concrete mixer.
It needs 4 new tyres anyway, so anyone got any recommendations for quiet, reasonably priced tyres?
I figured out that the VAG platforms are major transmitters of road noise, my Toledo sounded like it had four screwed up bearings when I first bought
it!!
Falken ZE912's worked for me, but I don't think they're available anymore. ZE914 would be my logical next choice.
Yep most all VAG cars are noisy lol and I'm half deaf. I work for a Audi dealer and am always amazed my 12 year old 5 series is quiter and much
better build quality than any Audi

Just found the receipt for mine, £79 each for 225/45/17 (fitted). That was from Oponeo. I have a feeling that I went for the cheapest tyres that had a recognisable brand name (at least to me!).

I have had both on my focus, 912 and 914. I had the same issue, cheap crappy tyres. Put these on the difference was astonishing! They are fairly
cheap too. I actually changed the rear wheel bearings thinking it was that, turned out it was the tyres. "
I have done exactly the same thing, on my mondeo, as the rear lhs bearing was doing my head in,
so I changed it, and made no difference, however new tyres at MOT time, and no noise!

I put some Kumho (KU30?? or something) on my Audi S4, they significantly reduced the road noise over the Falkens I had on previously.

I'd check with Audi what tyres the car was supplied with and try them.
Going with 4x toyo proxies, know they are quiet as have run them on pretty much every car I've had with no problems: mk2 golf, FTO, 306 GTI6,
Clio 172. Plus, they were on special on blackcircles.
So thanks for advice, you'll note that I've chosen to ignore all of it
Update on this, not that anyone cares, but logging it for future generations... Took delivery of and fitted 4x 16" steel wheels with snow tyres on them and wow, car is as quiet as a normal car. Startling difference.
