Track day tyres

Not been in the loop on track day tyres for a year or two
The last tyres I used were r888 and yoko a048
Both were good and I am looking for something similar, although something a little less track focused with a bit more wet weather capability would be considered

Any thoughts on tyre type and the best place to get them appreciated

I do have a tame tyre fitter friend who can fit them if it works out cheaper to buy the tyres

Toyo r1r very good. Tiny Bit less grippy than 888's but decent in the wet.

They look good but they don't seem to do that type in the tyre size I need

Front 18x8.5. 225/40R18
Rear 18x10.5 255/35R18

Was pleased with some part worn Ad08s i bought recently. Was disappointed with the wear rate of the NS2rs, less than 1000 road miles and 1 (fairly aggressive) trackday at thruxton. 888s seem to be default still for most, but i only buy them when on offer.

R888's are good but I agree the wear rate in these is high
I just about destroyed a set of these on one track day at Elvington!
I must admit Elvington is a very abrasive track and I was driving it like I had stolen it

Front 18x8.5. 225/40R18
Rear 18x10.5 255/35R18

I was going to offer you some I have thinking they were for a Kit car but not at those sizes, I presume it's not?

I had some of these, they were very good for one trackday but I think must have overheated as on the next trackday they performed very badly, to the extent that I got rid of them even though there was loads of tread left. Wouldn't recommend if you're going to track the car. Personally I would also avoid R1Rs (which I think are basically the Toyo equivalent) and other similar tyres as I'd guess they might have the same issue, but I've got no first-hand experience of these.

I allways end up back with trusty 888's decent wear rate excellent predictable grip and ok in wet, I ran new 888's on the Mallory 6 hour, those that where there will confirm it was monsoon conditions for the first 4 hours, they handle standing water ok when new.

I have them in several states of wear, a new set for seroiuse wet weather some just about road legal ok for dampish conditions and just about down to canvas for the dry, just rotate them when the canvas comes through they all move on one stage.

Yeah, R888s work for me. And have lasted much longer than I anticipated, I'm currently about 10 trackdays in and they have loads of tread left. Not sure how this is possible as they have to cope with 320 bhp, and I don't potter about gently, but not complaining.

Anyone tried R888Rs yet? Was wondering about these vs Dunlop DZ03 next time round.

They are for a 2001 Boxster S

R888's still look like the choice of tyre for most people

I would recommend AD08's also, very predictable
