Greatest GP or F1 Drivers of all time

britishtrident - 27/11/16 at 02:57 PM

I just realised I left Lewis off the list --- and put Black Jack on twice.

I voted for jim Clark, as a child of the sixties all kids wanted to be Jim Clark, but I could have gone for surtees, as the only guy to be world champion on 2 and 4 wheels, I don't really think there is a wrong answer just personal preference.

Surely Ayrton Senna should be on that list

sdh2903 - 27/11/16 at 04:12 PM

And alonso?

Too soon for young max. I'm a massive fan though, hugely talented and comes across very well for a young lad. Definitely potentially world champion. Ricciardo too. Could be an interesting fight next year when the word is redbull may well be more competitive.

It's a very wide ranging question down to a lot of personal preferences. I went Fangio purely on his amazing stats. You can't argue with Schumachers 7 titles but at the time his personality was not very endearing. Vettel was right place right time and is showing his true colours lately. Coulthard? Really?

Mistake I had mean't to put him in the sin bin at the bottom ---

Definitely would have voted Senna had he been there.

Mike Hailwood never won a F1 race, but he did win the George medal for pulling Clay Regazzoni from his burning car after they crashed in 1973. This despite his racing suit catching fire in the process, a real hero

On top of that, he won the IOM TT countless times (got to be a nutter to even ride that, Guy Martin springs to mind) got a 3rd place in Le Mans, nd won Motor cycle GP championships 9 nine times in 3 different classes!

Well, I voted for Hunt, as I knew him, albeit very briefly, and played squash against him, and I won!

He wasn't just a driver, but a character, and such a laugh,

Any one of the above, and probably more, deserve the top position, all for different reasons, so will there ever be the best ?
probably not, as from the start of F1 to now, is a totally different type of person and car/team

I think if you judge it just on racing it will be someone like Schumacher but most people if asked that question wouldn't base it just on results or talent even, especially for guys who aren't driving any more. A lot of us have our own reasons for picking someone that wouldn't stand up to any real scrutiny.

One of the few drivers that should have been banned from F1 for life.

He must have been a natural as he had any idea how the car worked

nick205 - 28/11/16 at 09:14 AM

Schumacher gets my vote.

Maybe not everyone's choice, but he was the driver of my F1 fan years.

An interesting "vote" on a car lovers forum.

LBMEFM - 28/11/16 at 01:42 PM

As other comments where is the greatest driver of all time - Ayton Senna

morcus - 28/11/16 at 08:03 PM

I voted Mansell but I don't think you can argue with Shueys results I sort of agree with you on Senna.
