I've struck a deal and will be collecting it next Saturday.
It only has a wheezy 1.4 CVH in there at present so I'm thinking 2.0 Zetec (Blacktop), unless anyone else has a better idea?
What's the best / cheapest way to get a Zetec in there and running fuel and ignition wise? Will I be able to use the current CVH gearbox? What
about best flywheel / clutch? I know the info is out there but there just seems to be a LOT of it so would rather get experienced opinions.

You can't do better than read big_wasa s thread about using an ST170 engine with its own ECU, it answers all your questions about engines and
gearboxes and flywheels. I know at the moment he has a blacktop Zetec with a turbo for sale that comes with all the ancillaries and can be seen
running in a test bed

The one we bought cost £300, came with 7 months MOT and the bits we didn't want have sold for more than that - if you use it as a front wheel dive setup it has a 6 speed gearbox as well

Been putting a bit more thought into the engine. I'm pretty sure that an ST170 engine isn't going to fit with its huge inlet manifold in
place, which kinda rule out using the Ford ECU. However, I think at the price of these engines (sub £200) it's still a better base engine than a
std 2.0 Zetec.
Both will need either bike carbs / ITBs and something to run the sparks so no real difference in cost there. The ST170 comes with a plastic inlet
manifold that can be adapted to take bike carbs /ITBs.
First option would be to do away with the VVT and reset the inlet cam to 110deg and use an ignition only ECU for about £300 (possibly cheaper) inc
generic loom.
Second option would be use this ECU which effectively controls the VVT as Ford intended and would give better torque/power pretty much everywhere.
This is ignition only but is upgradeable with a SW update for fuel injection if required later. It does come with a plug and play ST170 loom, which is

I think I just need to go ahead and get an ST170 engine with as much as I can get with it and see what fits. I can make a decision later on

That one runs the Focus Rs ecu and has a 215 ps map. So with a little more compression it should be easily 220 at the fly.

Just about to pull the pin on an ME100 for my Puma 1.7 VCT engine in my Anglia, will be running it with DHLA 40's. This will come with a ST170
loom that I may have to alter to fit. The ME100 is actually a ME221 with the injector outputs knobbled in Firmware so you either have an addition 8
low level outputs or in future you can pay for a firmware upgrade to restore it to a full fat ME221 to run injection.
Worth also contacting Chester Sportscars are they do a Bike carb kit for the ST170 using the ME VCT controller and I think they have gone over to
CANEMS for the spark (from megajolt jnr and then nodiz). However as the ME100 effectively includes the VCT controller in it and has the upgrade path I
think fro £500 this is a pretty good deal for any engine with VCT/VVTI if you want to run carbs.

When I built my Fury Mark Fisher provided details of the Ford EECIV ecu from the early Escort Zetecs that would run a carb engine quite happily, apparently they were a homologation for the Formula Ford weber race engines. It obviously needed the EDIS module that is getting harder to find as many were snapped up to use on Megajolt/squirts. He also provided Weber Twin 40/45 jetting info for a stock 1.8l and 2.0l Silvertops. I ran one of these with a 2.0l silvertop running a Griffin style log inlet plenum and again that worked fine so long as you got matching injectors, maf, TPS, air and water temp sensors from the same engine. If I remember I will try and dig it out and post for info.

Got myself a cheap bare engine to try for size before I decide on how to run it.....

Oem is cheap as chips but a bit of a faf. But it will start and stop like factory. No tuning no messing.
Non Oem gets more interesting due to the vvt. I would use it as it gives better torque.
The costs go up but so does the power. But your limited by your gearbox there so I wouldn’t get to carried away.
