How have the new changes to the MOT test affected corrosion related issues at test.
In particular, areas of corrosion that would have been classed as an advisory item prior to the new test changes.
Just started the welding work on Juniors 05 plate Transit van.
Typical Transit rust areas to do.
This is going to be the last year for this van as Junior is intending to upgrade after the new year.
I would rather not spend time on the advisory areas if they are not now deemed to be Major fail points.

Thanks for the link Loggy
Been a while since I last read any of that & it's good to have a little catch up by way of a refresher.
Last years advisorys
Nearside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Offside Front tyre worn on inner edge
Nearside Rear Vehicle structure has slight corrosion above bump stop (6.1.A.1)
Offside Rear Vehicle structure has slight corrosion above bump stop (6.1.A.1)
Brake pipes & tyres were sorted ages ago
In my view, the advisory corrosion items show no further deterioration since the van had its last test.
Just wondered what category they would fall into now.
Minor or Major
Class 7 test for this van

I had a quick read, but I couldnt see anything relating to corrosion that was a Minor, so suspect there are no obvious changes.
Thanks again Loggy
I know I could just fix those areas but have enough weld repairs to do as it is.
Thinking that the last test was done by a tester with a white stick.
Mind you the van was cheap & I was aware that some of the previous weld repairs fell way short of my standards.
I've just had my 2002 Transhit tested, with previous advisories on the bump stops corrosion. Previously, mention was made that the area is
extensively laminated, now delaminating of course, but not perforated.
There was no mention of said corrosion last week, though I haven't addressed it. There was *plenty* of activity with the corrosion assessment
tool everywhere, a very proper and thorough examination by a guy who is very, very serious.
I mind seeing a clip of a crash, I think of a VW camper, got rear ended at traffic lights and no joke just disintegrated into a sicking heap of panels
like it had been held together with duck tape.
I think of that every time I'm under a car inspecting rusty bodywork, some day someone's life may rely on that part being in good
shape...
When I was a kid my dad had most of our Allegro patched up with news paper & body filler, I wonder now if he realises just how much danger he was
putting the family in?
